I haven't tried wearing a fanny pack while riding in about 30 years, but one of my teammates sent out a link to this one on the PNW Components website for 40% off, so I figured I'd give it a try:

I suspect that if I were to buy one of those it would be dark 24/day. So for the greater good I will not even consider it. But you should go ahead and switch over to Garmin.

I had a 1040 for a few weeks. I returned it and kept my 830. The only thing I really liked was the music widget which let me see what song was playing and skip forward or backward.

It is also huge. Here’s a screen grab from a video i took in Utah. It just felt awkwardly big. Maybe the out front mount made it worse? When I got home from this trip I returned it.

Good point. Compared to the wahoo it will look ridiculously big. Same features on the 800 series?

Yep the 1040 and 840 are almost identical feature wise. (Research that to fact check me, but I think the only difference is the size )

Yeah, you absolutely need a stem centered mount for the 10xx series. I can't imagine going back to a smaller screen now that I'm used to it.

Yeah I was speaking mtb wise. That part of the bike is just about guaranteed to be driven into the dirt during crashes too.

I have the 1030+ on a stem mount, absolutely love it because my tired old eyes can actually see the trails on it's larger then life screen.

i have it, never used the non-solar 1040 but it certainly lasts alot longer than my previous 1030 did, and it gives you a readout of how much 'charge' it acquired on a given ride, those numbers tend to be low in the woods, but on the road it certainly adds some noticeable time

My last few MTB rides I've been using safety glasses with.1.5 readers on the lower edge
Makes seeing the small screen of my bolt so much better.

Makes sense, after all we are riding in the woods, lots of shade. Bet it would charge up fine on road rides. FWIW my 1030 lasts close to 8 hours on a charge.
