Clean Start

Almost got run over today - I'm in a crosswalk, front blinky light,
a cab pulls up in the right turn lane, I see him looking left, and I can tell
he isn't looking back to the right before he goes - i'm dead center of his hood if I don't do something,
abandoned the cross walk, and get on the gas, to get a few extra feet of space,

somehow managed to get the front tire on the curb, and cased the back pretty hard.
he missed me, and I have no idea how.
I ended up in the bushes on the other side of the sidewalk, cause I wasn't really concerned about braking at that point,,
at least he stopped - I told him to f-off. would have killed a kid in that situation.

got a nice wobble in the wheel now. i'll take it vs tacoing my leg.
Clearly your fault, like 100%. Freaking cyclists...

Officiated at the Regional Junior Olympics meet in Jersey City this weekend.
It is a 3 day event with young athletes (7-18) qualifying from their state meets.
Some good athletes - NJ has the 2nd ranked discus thrower in the nation (17/18 AG)
The weather was challenging, but we won't melt (or dissolve)

Driving in Sunday (5:30ish), I was greeted with this. Silent Lucidity came on.

Think I'm gunna ride today - maybe meet @Norm at RV.

And the answer is:

Bilateral Inguinal Hernias.....cause the Dr didn't read the CT report last December (or whenever the visit was)
Will spare the details, but there is no visual sign of a hernia, and it took the Dr a good amount of time to locate them.
Which was enjoyable.

Surgery in Dec.

Forgive me if I failed to read this earlier in the thread, but how long were you symptomatic/dealing with discomfort that led to seeking a medical diagnosis?

Will obviously be wishing you an uncomplicated surgery and speedy recovery in December.

Major Ouch last November -
Finally go to doc-in-the-box a couple weeks later in December
They send me to the emergency room - CT and Ultrasound
They refer me to a urologist. he gives me flomax, cause every 60yo needs it, follow-up in Jan
- he also thinks it could just be a pulled muscle.
It starts resolving like a pulled muscle. If I strain it gets worse, if I go easy it subsides.
So I go easy, skip my Jan follow-up, and hope for the best.
It is slowly resolving, but always "there"
Couple months ago, I have my wellness visit and blood work. So I signed up for the new patient portal.
I read the CT report and right in there, it says hernias.
--somewhere in here I have a colonoscopy, cause problems back there might be related? nope, but there were other issues
Takes me a month to get back into the urologist, who hadn't read the report.
I ask him to take a look at the CT (he only read the ultrasound) - and see if the hernia could be causing it.
He had the whoops look - "poked" around, and referred me to a surgeon.
Took a month to get in to see the surgeon.
Here I am.

The pain is just low level annoying - but always there. It moves around a bit, but isn't setting off any alarms.
Just bad after riding trails for a bit. not as bad on the road, so I've basically stopped riding.
I can get the eBike on the rack, so lifting 50lbs isn't horrible.

Playing pickleball doesn't bug me any more than sitting. problem is the shoulder tear (second time) and nerve damage from the first makes that awkward - and sometimes painful.

can't wait for my second shoulder surgery - maybe early next year.

Sorry I did not see this before. Good luck with the surgery, let's just hope the surgeon has steady hands...

Thanks!
I was watching the video of the surgery - and yeah, don't cut the wrong wire.
Of all things a video of on how the surgery I'm about to undergo is done would be the one I would not look at it. I don't cope well with internal organs, especially if mine...but I guess you're an inquisitive mind.
