Any peeps from jersey city area?

Hey, if you ever want to do a road ride in the area let me know. I'm planning to start doing early morning rides more frequently. I need the time on the bike and I want to be out with less people on the road.

ha, i had planned to do that this morning but instead woke up with a headcold. first my car, now me!

i'll keep you posted though.

how is jungle habitat?

I'd say as far as NJ goes Jungle Habitat is intermediate when it come to rocks. It's a good stepping stone to Wawayanda, Ringwood, and then the hardest (in my opinion) Sourlands.

Chimney Rock and Ringwood/Ramapo/JH are the closest trails to Hoboken/Weehawken/JC.

Chimney Rock is a good place to hone in riding rock in your early days of riding.

How about we set a weekly thing. Every Saturday, or Sunday we can form a group ride. It's easier for me to meet on Sundays. We can meet in Hoboken near the Path, and then head out to hit some trails. Let's shoot for Sept. 13th or 14th. I vote for the 14, but if everyone wants to do the 13th you can count me in. We can do Kittatinny for our first ride. So who's in?

Sorry for the mix up. The 13th is fine with me, and I would like to be on the road by no later than 10AM. So, we can shoot for a 9:30 AM meet. Let's see how big this group will get before the 13th. I say we will have over 10 riders, what do you think?

If you are new to Mtbing you'll quickly find out what peoples definitions of beginner/intermediate/advanced are. I say intermediate in terms of what is available in NJ. On my first year riding there were intermediate trails that looked completely not bikeable to me when i first saw them.

On my first year of riding in 2005 i remember being all cocky from mastering the advanced labeled trails of Stillwell out in Long Island only to be slapped by reality when i visited Sprain Ridge park where their beginner trail was twice as hard as Stillwells advanced.

If you are familiar with skiing think of a double black diamond at Hunter compared to double black diamond at Jackson Hole. At Hunter where it can possibly be a little scary to someone during their first year of skiing, a double black diamond will kill that same person at Jackson Hole.

that's a good analogy. i can say i've never ridden anything "expert" and i don't really plan on it. i like a good combination of good speed and technical, but not where i'm risking a broken collar bone on every turn. of course, not including the random drop. 🙂

unfortunately, i will be out of town on the 13th. i'll have to meet up another weekend!

Hey, keep posting when you'll be riding... I can't make the 13th because I'm racing that day, but I definitely want in on the fun.

If any of you want to do Saturdays post up too, that's a better day for me to meet and ride in North Jersey.

Hey there!

I started kinda the same topic when I came to the country over half a year ago. since i had no car that time my rides were limited to a few so far.

I am living right next to the Washington Park in the Heights and I`d love to explore the big trails of the country... and the smaller ones around here.

I am riding since over ten years and my preferences are trail riding, enduro and downhill, but I actually don`t know any places around here.

If you wanna go for a ride, please send a private message... I`m not checking this forum posts often

My friends and I ride a lot in the area. Most of us are in the southern Bergen county area. We're thinking of setting up some Saturday and Sunday rides in the fall. It would be great if we could get everyone together for rides. My boy chris actually lives in Hoboken and drives out here to meet us. I'm sure he could throw some of you in his truck. We have about 7 or 8 guys that ride. Right now early Sundays are rough because a bunchof us are on a softball team. We don't play this Sunday so we've been throwing around the idea of a big ride somewhere. If anyone is available you're welcometo join. I'll post when I know more.

this is great. finally we're getting more responses from peeps around the area.

@MCAWVU: i guess most of us would be beginners but surely are would like to join you. lets see what we can set up.

i have NO idea! really need somebody to show me around. I came to this area in January and I finally bought a car last week.

I prefer some tricky trails with downhill sections. but riding uphill is also okay.
I checked this ringwood thing... looks fun.
I also finally need to check the diablo, but I`m still waiting for some spare parts for my avid code, so I have to backup with my juicy... but those guys really need a maintenance and I think downhill riding is too much for a "pneumatic" brake. 🙂
