Verizon Droid

ok j, spill it. that's the second obscure reference you've made about this which makes me think one of three things:
1. you're an insider.
2. you're full of sh!t
3. you read the BGR report just like i do.

Agreed...If you are not willing to explain your point...you can keep it. 🙄

I am severely behind on electronic gadgetry and would love to dive in on this stuff. #1 reason I don't?...Continuously increasing monthly charge!!! I'm not into this bending over for the MAN every month for the next two years.

The iPhone was a $200 dip plus a quote of +$110/month. Are you friggin mad?

The Droid with navigation is intriguing. I don't have a nav system so this could kill two birds. I'm a Verizon customer already and have had zero issues. I'll wait to see what the REAL costs of this device is before I succumb to the hype.

would you buy this phone jake? or wait to see whats up the road?

If you wait 6 months there will be something better. And 6 months after that. And 6 months after that....

If you want to stay on the Verizon network and you want a smartphone now, this is the one to get. I am. Verizon has finally committed to an open device that you can install whatever you want on because they see it as the best way to stop people from bailing for the Iphone. And they stand to make a ton of $$ by getting customers to add a $30/month data plan.

My plan has 450 minutes, unlimted in network, unlimited text/pic messaging (you must know this already 😀) and unlimited access to the internet amongst the other fine print details. I think that SHOULD cover it for that phone. its between 80-85 bucks a month.

In Jeremy's defense, he is a VZW employee and they take leaks of company secrets very seriously. He would be fired if he gave away any info that hasn't already been given in a VZW press release.

Doesn't Jake have a crackberry and iPhone. 🙄

IMO, if you are already an iPhone user, there should be zero interest in this device. Wait for the next iPhone.

If you are one of the people wanting an iPhone but heald out for whatever reason, this may be the answer.

I was on the fence thinking of waiting to see what was coming down the pipe as I too have a heard that a slew of devices are going to be coming out, but that GPS nav app has put me over the top. Seeing that thing in action was awesome.

Here is an interesting chart that compares features and real cost of the Iphone, Pre and Droid. These things ain't cheap.

I think the monthly price is misleading. This is what the minimum is:

Edit: It doesn't paste well.

$87 before taxes

I'm not quite sure where this guy got his numbers from. A 450 minutes/month, 250 messages/month & data plan costs $75/month. That monthly cost over two years plus the cost of the phone is $2000K over 2 years. So that's really only a grand more then the most basic plan over 2 years. Am I missing something. I didn't include taxes and fees b/c those are going to be roughly the same no matter which option you take.

That chart used the 900 minute/month plan and unlimited txt msgs as the 'average users plan'. Yes, there are cheaper plans available as you stated.

jeff said it. if you want one now, yes. or you can wait six months and drool over the new iPhone. i don't think they'll change the physical device this time, but in 2011 it's either a slider key board or a surface that is smooth until you want it to be a key board at which point it'll dimple. think the same tactile experience as the old texas instruments speak and spell. oh my god i had one of those.

no, no. just an iPhone now. i don't have the crackberry anymore. it was busted and i sold it on ebay for $150. broken. amazing.

but yeah, if you have an iPhone you're already at the top of the mobile device food chain. the first gen droid phones, while coming close, will not meet the successes of the iPhone. not yet, anyway. like i said, apple has way too much head start.

The prices are f'ing stupid. But like bikes, I just pay it and eat cheaper food.

I have an old BB and an iPhone. It's not a fair comparison but the BB is a hunk of garbage. I'm sure this new one is great compared to that. My company will never buy us new ones though.

Like Jake said, Apple is too far ahead. Same thing happened with iPods. They just had too much of a gap. I like the competition, as it can only bring quality up and prices down. But we all become beta customers.

The only App with the Droid that really jumped out at me was the new google maps navigation. Thankfully I learned that google will be developing it for the iPhone....

trust me when i tell you, absolutely nothing in the current mobile universe gets developed without the iPhone in mind first.
