New to site.

Hello all,

I'm just getting started in Mountain Biking and have been riding The Tourne and Allamuchy: Deer Park. I bought a Trek Y26 to get my feet wet and learn the trails and I just upgraded to a Diamondback Recoil Comp (2011 used for $525). I'm not a big fan of Hardtail bikes. I tried out two of my friends' bikes (Trek and Giant) and didn't like how they felt going downhill over rock gardens.

I've read enough to know that if you don't purchase a Trek, Giant, Cannondale, or Specialized, you get crucified on here, but I really like Full Suspension bikes, and don't have an extra $1500 to shell out for a base level FS LBS Bike.

I'm going to ride the stock setup for now (http://www.diamondback.com/bikes/mtn-full-suspension/recoil-comp-11/), but I'll probably start looking to upgrade over the winter when I can save up some money. Any suggestions on upgrades I should make to the bike?

Welcome.

Honestly, i would save and buy a complete bike that is decent. You could wind up upgrading a lot on that bike which would cost you a lot more. I would ride your current bike until you save enough money to at least buy a decent used bike. Look on this forum for bikes for sale.

F that I have 3 mountain bikes and none of them are the Crucifixion Party Brands you list.

IMO it really depends. I don't subscribe to the "buy a complete bike" theory because most of the high-ballers on this site end up building a bike up anyway. So many people will tell you to buy a complete bike, but many don't actually do that. It's going to depend on how serious you want to be, or plan to be. Be honest with yourself. Are you the kind of guy who might get bored of biking in 6 months and want to learn to play the drums? There's nothing wrong with that answer, but it will help the process if you can be honest with yourself.

Wheels are always a good upgrade. Drop the coin on wheels. I mean, if you're going to stay the course.

If you're not sure, ride this thing into the ground.

I see your in boonton , if you evere wanna hit up lewis morris park lemme know, i pass boonton on my way there.

Welcome to the site... enjoy what you've got, keep the wheels down, and a smile on your face... in time all of your questions will be answered from experience...

oh and remember - there is no spoon 😀

welcome...and i wouldn't say that at all. in fact i'd say the opposite is true in some regard. if you DO buy one of those bikes, people may say you're just part of the herd. whatever. my main bike isn't on your death list...but four of my others are. Trek.

anyway, welcome and do whatever norm says.

oh- i went to boonton high. yo.
