Dragons are F'ing Awesome

We had that phone with a 30 foot cord. I could almost walk upstairs to my bedroom with the receiver. HIGH TECH.

my sister used to do that. she'd snake that cord all over the house. then it would get all stretched out and you'd have these huge rings in the cord that would manage to snag everything. then it would get that huge knot right in the middle. it would be more tangled than iphone/ipod headphone wires.

definitely need more content, maybe i should start a 'training blog', hmm, that would probably just bore peoplel tho bc im slow and most dont who i am . . .

That's funny about how much soap J uses. Logan recently started taking showers by himself and literally uses about 1/4 of a bottle of shampoo if we don't watch him closely. He must wash himself like 10 times.

It's winter, cross is almost over, it always gets quiet around here. Maybe we should start a Winter Sports section to the site?

Things

Utah says my blog is uninteresting. I think Utah stinks and his culinary abilities in the kitchen start and end with the canister of Parmesan cheese in his fridge.

I'll bet he could make a gingerbread house out of parmesean.

The Board

It's pretty bad. We need suggestions on how to keep it alive.
This is where I offer to do a beer contest.

I thought someone would have something to say about my uploading the old files from Taiwan.

Nothing?

My first thought was those KOTM's are safe from that KOM-glommer you guys were stalking for a bit.

I know we go through this every year - what does it take? A winter riding competition? Well a little birdy has told me...It WILL be back.
Do it or I will do another beer bracket. jk.
Winter riding contest would be fun. And cause content.

Do it. We need one. What kind of beer?

For serious, I was kidding.
It wouldn't be helpful to to boost content with non-bike content.

And plus I need to focus on my international KOM profile.

Bam

Ok that's a whole hell of a lot better. Keep those comments coming. Trash away, tell me I suck, come up with something, anything interesting. Do content!

Last night I did ride, inside again. I did some 20s, with the first 10 minutes being reasonable-hard and the last 10 minutes sucking. I'm trying to baseline a little bit for my winter base riding. So I need to make sure I actually have this in the tank right now, be it inside or out. These weren't Threshold 20s, but some mix of tempo & tempo+ as far as effort goes. I'm kind of out of practice.

Today no ride. I'm in the city then tonight I'm going to a Christmas party a few miles from the house.

Tomorrow I'll ride outside. Sunday I hope to ride a bit then I'm painting.

Xmas

Matty, is that an open invite to play video games and eat food at your house? I probably get J for the day around 3:00 or so. But before then I've got nothing. Does anyone ride on Xmas morning?

And I'm all over Dance4. Really there's Dance1-3?

New Normal

Props to stb for calling my suck the suck. Yeah I know I suck but this is not actually the New Normal. New Normal starts after the new year. Well, it's "a" New Normal, but there may be other New Normals next year, given my situation and so on. But let's work on New Normal #1 for now.

Oh I am getting my Superfly back from Fred so I can ride in the winter again and not have to suffer with my summer shoes 🙂

Agreed that the threads take on a sort of feel where it's like Charlie Brown's teacher, it all feels the same.

Outside, I'll get there. By April at least.

Utah

He mentioned maybe Jungle this weekend and I have to admit I'm interested. I'll be up early and maybe I could do that. Ted is probably pissed (and I'm sure has flat tires) so maybe this would be a great way to spend my Saturday morning. I have some stuff to do, but I really have all day. So maybe?

I do run a mountain bike team, after all. I should ride it from time to time. At least once a month I guess.

Robin & DRV

No Mooch for me Sunday, as I'll be painting much/most of the day, as well as maybe a quick ride and seeing my parents for a little...I think. Maybe you can swing by and hook me up with boxes and a table and we can do dinner or something? I know, late night turns you into a pumpkin. But maybe do what I mentioned last time? I'm not sure how next week shakes out, so we can play it by ear.

Since the site lacks for content I might as well communicate with everyone here, and let people pry.

DRV - probably not, but he offered to make it right so I'll give him that chance. It's only fair. My expectations are pretty low right now. We're not changing colors, no way!

On that note, to answer RLB in the Robin section, we discussed it internally and no, there will not be non-team gear offered to the unwashed masses. Having said that, we have agreed that special site friends can be eligible for a team jersey. Since you've been in my kitchen...well, my former kitchen, you may qualify.

I have 2 old medium jerseys that I need to get rid of. I think The Hat is going to get 1.

Printer/Fax/Scanner

By all means, I'll take it! Joe M has offered a printer but as everyone well knows, this beggar can be a chooser, assuming I beg enough. So I'll take the better printer and then go all Office Space on the one I don't like.

Training Blogs

They're usually of some interest but it needs to have a different take. Like I'm going to post a daily haiku and nothing else to represent my time on the bike. As an example, if I were doing this, here's my entry from yesterday:

Bike wheel spins around
But I go nowhere so fast
This thing hurts my brain

I encourage someone to take this idea and run with it. 1 winter haiku a day training blog. Or go yard and so something with iambic pentameter.

I'm looking in Jake's direction here...

Winter Sports

The BARD suggested a winter sports section, but don't we all just ride bikes through the winter.

Or is this your sneaky way to try and make a hockey thread? I wrote that 2 times and it came out, hickey thread. If you really want a hickey thread, go for it.

Bard's Hickey Thread Winter Training Blog.

I'm not sure if I should add "pics required" or "no pics allowed".

Beer

Beer or wine contest, anything to keep the proletariat coming back. Can you offer them free moldy bread and the ergot buildup can cause us to at least have a witch burning? That should entertain us through the winter, if nothing else.

For real, right now we have almost no content. So beer > nothing.

BSA Winter Race

I'm thinking that's not on the table right now. It's hard, who has time to plan a race around Xmas? And once January rolls around we start to see single digits. Imagine a race on January 12th and it's 9 degrees. We might get 3 people to show.

I remember I threw out the idea of a winter race last year and ChrisRU said something like, "Of course nobody will race, BECAUSE IT'S WINTER!"

In general, I trust RU's opinion almost as much as my own. Though admittedly the last time he was at my house he must have drank like 10 beers, so he may have been drunk when he said that...

Pics

Nothing today. Oh I guess I could find a stock one...

a lot of this is my fault. maybe i'll start writing a choose your own adventure story.

Yes on invite. Yes there is 1-3 we only have 3 though and 4 on its way but it makes for good drunken dance fun. Oh there will be a new karaoke mic to jam with so bring your camera.

It wouldn't be helpful to to boost content with non-bike content.

I'm all for a beer competition if someone else is driving.😀

Norm, I like reading about your interaction with J since it mirrors my world to an extent. I don't mind the new normal...for now.:getsome:

May I suggest posting more gnar

I posted a terrible video just now. I crashed. Does that help?

Winter air so crisp
the sun can barely be seen
now a vampire

I can do shitty haiku all day.😛 I realized too late that the word "vampire" sucks up a lot of syllables.

The HP is all yours. I'll get it up there at some point soon.

You definitely need to get on Ted more. How is the shoulder in the cold weather?

Content... For the most part I enjoy the content here. I love the ball busting, even if its directed at me. All in good fun. As for Norm's new blog/content its ok. I like reading about his interactions with daughter. Seeing Norm as a Dad is different than seeing him as the arrogant-know-it-all-and-rules-it-all of the forum. Makes you think he is a real person and not just a super fast guy on a bike that we can never catch.

This is the second time I recall this subject coming up. New content needs new blood and I dont see a lot of new members and when I do see them, they dont stay or dont participate much. I think that shrpshtr guy scares them away. He is frightening after all. We need to do something about that.

Perhaps its the forum and your expectations of it??? what do you really expect from a forum? How much can we all really talk about or share with biking as the main subject? That is one of the reasons I started the "wildlife" thread. Has to do with biking in a way, but can go off the subject of biking too.

Bikes in space anyone?

You could also have someone write specific "articles" for information. This appeals to people looking for info but not wanting to "chat". Much like the "wiki" pages on trails. But do some other types of things. Maybe a monthly column type of thing on bike care, derailuer adjustments (how to spell derailuer), blah blah blah. Encourage more members to do blogs like the ones in the nutrition and training sections, but then show your support of them doing it by commenting once in a while (why do you ignore me so?)

Anyway...is that enough for now?
