Misadventures of Mom

HURRAY!
saw the Dr today who said the bone is healed and in place. Said I can resume "normal activities" with some restrictions.
Biking is ok, flat smooth paved.

He said it can take 4 months, perhaps as many as 6 months before the shoulder will feel 100% normal again. Dont over do it, take it easy and let it heal slowly.

Said I shouldnt need to go to physical therapy as I seem motivated and disciplined enough to do my own at home. So he gave me 3 exercises I have to do 3 times a day. He also said if I feel no improvement in a month I need to come back and have him look at it.

Sooooo who's up for a canal path ride?

Oh and just cause I think looking at this stuff is cool:

Thanks everyone!

I want to say a special thanks to those that have reached out to me during this past month with encouraging emails and texts. Even a bigger thanks to those that hung up their bike a day or two (or 3) and went on a hike with me.

Thanks and big hugs!

I took the afternoon doing some things around the house and just getting used to using the arm again. My tendency was to keep it tight against my side, so I just wanted to get used to letting my arm hang down naturally and feeling like I can use it. Today I officially start my "exercises"

There was some muscle damage during the crash as well as the broken bone, and that section of my arm actually is what hurts the most still. Arm feels like it gets to a certain point and just wont go any further, so I've some work to do there. Still some bruising in that spot even after a month. But I am happy! Heard the Bikes celebrating last night that we can go play again!

The Mr Am and I went for my first "after injury" ride yesterday.

I rode my beloved GT (most would say "its too old buy a new bike")

Its a full suspension ("why do you ride that here, its too much bike for these trails")

I rode the Henry Hudson ("you call that a trail? thought you were a mountain biker")

I wore my work clothes as I didnt have time to change ("call yourself a cyclist? You wore dress slacks and a cotton shirt?")

My socks did not match my outfit ("ugh")

I wore my brand new downhill gloves because I didnt have a chance to wear them yet and wanted to see how they felt ("really?")

But I dont give one hoot what I looked like or what anyone thought about how I dressed, or what I rode. I was purely happy I was able to ride again.

As for the shoulder, after half an hour it started to ache. It will take some time to get that area back in shape. And yes, a month off the bike does set you back just a tiny bit, even without an injury to recover from.

Hurray! rode the canal path today with a few fantastic fellas! Did just under 10 miles. A little sore and sitting with a heating pad now. Legs feel good, but my arm is slow and weak feeling. I was also aware of every little vibration even with the suspension. May have to try the squishier bike next time 🙄

I am all ready for the downhill season to start next spring! New gloves, new helmet, new chest protector 😀

Here's my newest prize (thanks Manny!)

those camo pants are rad.
how is the shoulder flexibility?

Thanks! 🙂

Shoulder is getting better. Can put on my own shoes and socks. Yesterday I couldnt touch the top of my head, but today I can. Even though it hurts to do it, I can still do it.

2 Days ago I couldnt make a circle the size of my van's steering wheel, but today I can. Pretty smoothly too.

Small steps.

Feels a little stronger too.
Thanks for asking.
