Misadventures of Mom

physical therapy for shoulders just BITES!
Been there done that..What did you do to your shoulder? I dont feel like reading back 45 pages.

Heres my injury list at the ripe old age of 39:

Broken Knee
Broken Ribs
3 herniated discs
3 torn ligaments in left thumb
broken pinkie
Broken nose
torn bicep tendon (completely off)
Plantar Fasciitus
Torn hamstring (by far the worst pain and longest recovery right above broken ribs)
Torn rotator cuff

Not all at once of course, but accumulated since the age of 16. I got scars all over me...😀

Are these all from biking or other activities/accidents/etc? If biking, I'm taking up tiddlywinks 😉

You were at 6 mile today? What time? I saw 2 women on the trails today you must have been one of them..Did you have a blue bandana in your hair, kinda dressed like a hippie??? 😀

purple camo hat.
purple camo pants.
My "usual" hiking attire 😱

Thanks! 🙂

Shoulder is getting better. Can put on my own shoes and socks. Yesterday I couldnt touch the top of my head, but today I can. Even though it hurts to do it, I can still do it.

2 Days ago I couldnt make a circle the size of my van's steering wheel, but today I can. Pretty smoothly too.

Small steps.

Feels a little stronger too.
Thanks for asking.

Great news - are you following the rehab exercises religiously? That's a key to faster recovery

Dont know if that was you I saw at the beginning of your hike/end of my ride. I was a large fella on a white lefty finishing up and said "thank you" as the person stepped aside towards the beginning of the red trail around 1:30 ish. I thought it was a blue bandana but could have been a cammo hat.

haha, my wife told me you were wearing purple camo. I couldn't picture it. Great pic!

AM dropped by when my wife was home alone and I forgot to tell her people were going to creep. It made for a good story. Hopefully I'll get my wife out with the ladies next year, no luck this year 😱

broken.

Rick, I have been doing the exercises almost every day 😱 but I do try to do everyday things and use the arm even though it hurts like crazy to do it. I am constantly telling Barry "no dont help, let me do it" 😛

Today I was able to load my bike in the van all by myself!

jdog, Hurray PURPLE socks!

Manny and Dave, I would love to help encourage your ladies to ride, let me know and we can try to put a ride together. Even this season would be good, the weather is cool and the trails beautiful with fallen leaves.

Took a friend hiking to 6M a couple days ago. Her (somewhere between 11-13) son and his friend came along. What fun 😀 at the beginning of the hike I set a moderate/easy pace for them and they were running up ahead and running back and I told them to conserve their energy. "HAHA you old people cant catch us" they said. I looked at my friend and we just smiled "oh to be young again"

By the time we hit the 2 mile mark they were starting to drag along at 1.5 miles an hour. Really. At the 2 mile mark there were times our speed wasnt registering.

Of course we stopped and rested periodically. Had snacks and water. But this was a good learning experience for them, especially since I have heard a few stories about these boys when hiking with their parents previously.

So I went back to leading and setting the pace. Of course the same pace I set in the beginning, but now the boys are like "why are you going so fast?" The best was at the 3 mile mark the one boy says "I miss civilization, I want to see a building and a road" LOL and my friend's son says (this is the best) "Hey Mom, I feel so old and you look...younger"
I almost fell in the river I laughed so hard. Of course mom and I were still strolling along with peppy steps and smiles.

When we got back to the parking lot the boys were thrilled, but the best of the best was when they asked "hey, when are we doing this again?"

AM rules for hiking: leave only footprints, take only pictures (of course), no disturbing wildlife, no abusing of trees or other plant life, do not stray off the trails, no cheater lines, only step off the trails for emergencies and to yield, and we yield to everyone. (oh yeah, and no stepping on the woolies!)

shoulder progress: I was not able to wear a camelpack, but now I can HURRAY! It is getting easier to touch the top of my head. I tried to do a small bunny hop while on the canal path yesterday, ummmmm that didnt work so good 🙁 maybe its time to step up the physical therapy.

My new FAVORITE socks:

So when you post places for group hikes, so you state the past as "murder pace" of maybe Godspeed?

At place like sourlands, you tell me you never go off the trails to climb on the rocks? This breaks like 6 of your rules.

What murder pace? are you for real?

As for sourlands, I hiked there twice and both times stayed on the trails and did no rock climbing since my arm was in a sling stupid.
