6 Mile Run Conditions

These were a game changer for me. I have the 8" curved blade one. Fits in my jersey pocket and I used a codura sheath from a different saw. Many a blow down has been slain this winter.

Do these stay sharp? The ones I get from Home Depot last a couple sessions and then i may as well be using a butter knife.
Yes, the stuff at Home Depot Fiskars stuff is junk compared to these. You’ll break a blade before it goes dull. They are designed to cut on the pull stroke, which takes some getting used to. I snapped on over the winter.

They also have different teeth per inch blades from course to fine and straight/curved blades for different purposes.

Basically every tool they sell at HD is the absolutely cheapest version of that kind of tool going. Many brands even make lower quality good with the same brand name just for the HD. A rule of thumb is that if you need to have an Item last longer than one year, DO NOT buy it at the HD.

Look here to see what the pros use. They won't put up with crappy saws.

That Silky is one sexy saw. Ditto on the Fiskars from HD. I have one I carry in my hydro pack, but it's not long for this world.

Almost done on canal side - one spot left by the Blackwell bridge. I do need someone on stick duty. Not the sexiest thing but saves derailleurs. Just push any sticks to the side or toss them off trail. There’s a lot. I have a few helmet slappers to take care of and the one spot and that’s it. Low areas were very muddy but otherwise trail is drying nicely.

So I picked up a Silky saw because of this thread, and WOW! I had an opportunity to use it briefly yesterday, and it was pretty ridiculous how much better it is than my old saws.

I have a Harbor Freight folding saw that works great. It was like $10.

I used to think this too, but you don't know what you are missing. Less time cutting = more time riding.

Silky saws are the real deal.

Nice work out there Dave. I’ve got two or three more days of cutting before I can start movingly dirt. At that point I’ll invite others.

My 12 yr old Fiskers still cuts like new. That thing could cut you open in a heartbeat. Was not a home depot purchase. Maybe they changed.
Yes, I think there has been a change or better quality from non-HD. The one I bought at HD last year was basically useless after one use.

I had an idea for some dirt moving too - I’ll swing down to the shop so we can talk about it. Was thinking of some raised tread in a small spot to cut out some puddles. Wanted to run it by you.
