It’s been a long run for me, the end of this year will mark 18 years as the chapter lead. But my time has come to step aside and let someone else jump in. I’m hoping someone will step up so all those years of hard work are for not. I still plan to be around to help at some of the county scheduled sessions and assist in trimming as needed, I just won't be running the show. Also will help with the transition, if needed, for the lucky person.

Reach out to me if you are interested or have any questions.

Dang, end of a helluva an era!

Kirt,

Thanks for teaching so many people and me how to do trail work and making CR great.

Several years ago I was armoring the Yellow single track east of the Middlebrook, formerly known on Strava, as "That (Baller) Kirt's...." He rolls up and said to find big flat rocks. He then walked 2 steps off the trail and shows me a one square foot rock, two inches thick. To this day, I have never found a better rock for armoring.

The first time I rode Chimney Rock was around 2011 and I absolutely hated it. But… over the last decade and a half or so it’s come to be one of my favorite parks. Yes, the Cromwell addition/flow trails are friggen awesome and truth be told my first choice for a quick spin; But it’s way more than just that. The whole park now rides better, drains better and really showcases what CAN be done when hard work meets vision.

Thank You 🙏

I've only done TM with @Kirt a couple of times and rode with him as many, in spite of him being in a far superior class as a rider (meaning I'm more of a boat ancor while he's a legit rider) and obviously a much more involved trail builder (as I just occasionally show up and watch other people work for the most part), he has always been most gracious and cordial. Great dude.

So thank you @Kirt for being a great guy and all the time and effort you put into making NJ a better place for MTB.

Thank you @Kirt for the intense focus in CR over the years. I first went there in 2007 or so. Took a few friends who to this day refuse to make the trip based on that early experience. I keep telling them it’s completely changed for the better, but they don’t believe me. Their loss. It’s one of my favorite local spots to ride. So many improvements and extensions and sustainable reroutes. Hope we can find a steward to replace you. Big shoes to fill for sure, but lots of help from others like @Norm and @jdog will make his/her job that much more doable.

Thanks Kirt for all your hard work and for being my partner in crime with the Somerset County Parks Commission. I know it's been a long time, but if the current disorganization of the SCPC contributed to this decision, i understand. If anyone is thinking about stepping up, and would prefer Sourlands over Chimney Rock, I'd do a park swap.
