July 15

ride 10 of 20+ (if ebikes count?)

Today was a day of tests and goals.

1st, my main goal was to ride everyting at Glen Park. I'm guessing I rode 90% of it, but I was still passing trails that I missed as I left. GP has always confused me, and I love maps! I simply don't ride here often enough.
2nd, I wanted to see how my hands and elbow (and upper body) felt after 25 miles and 5000 ft of climbing on the ebike. I came close, but the bike ran out of juice just shy of that distance. Thankfully, hands and arms felt fine, yoohoo.
3rd, I wanted to see how long it took to ride 25 miles with 5000 ft of climbing on an ebike. There are several epic rides in Whistler with this amount of distance/elevation. I'm only there for 6 days so I'm going to pack as much riding/exploring as I possibly can on whatever bike is necessary.
4th, new helmet day. Enduro helmet (Bell Super DH) that can convert to a half lid. I've used various Giro Switchblades for last 8 years, so it was strange to try something different. The Super DH feels pounds lighter than the Switchblade.
5th, the ebike test. I know most folks are ebike haters, I totally understand. But ebikes have some good purposes. Preriding enduro courses is the reason I bought one. My Rail came with Shimano SLX brakes......if I continue to ride that 51 pound bike down enduro trails with those brakes, I'm going to get seriously hurt or die!! Hopefully I will get them replaced with some Codes or Saints very soon.

Most people that are ebike haters are just stubborn or silly. I personally have no interest in having an ebike for what I ride in NJ, but I can tell you with certainty that if I moved to Squamish, the first thing I would do is buy an ebike. I would recommend to most people that are going out there for a trip to rent one in fact.

Day 15: Legit Recovery Ride

We needed an easy day before the weekend so that’s what this afternoon brought. I know many of you are starting to drag at this point and that’s totally understandable. It’s a lot of riding all at once. It may be time to string some recovery days together.

What’s a recovery day?

I used to heavily follow some hardcore training message boards where some pro-level riders would chime in. One of them once said that their team recovery days were like 12-ish mph. Think about that compared to what they can normally do.

The rides where you push out 15-16 mph are likely not hurting you but they’re also not helping you climb out of the training hole you’ve dug for yourself. Slow it down and give yourself a day or 2 to relax.

I forgot to take a picture again which I guess happens on these road rides. So today you get 8 years ago, which is 1 of my classics.

More ppl on bikes is a win in my book! When I was at the in-laws I got passed on a big climb by a women in her late 70s! At first I was like... I will full on body slam this bike into the ground and give up this sport completely. Then I looked down and realized she was on an ebike doing her thing and having a blast. We had a good chat once I caught up on the flat and the ebike keeps her doing what she loves which is riding some of the most beautiful but stupidest roads in the state.

Has anyone else been traveling towards CT without traffic going completely fine and just seeing the google map turn red the second you get close to 84? Yeah... I guess they hired all the C average GPA civil engineers that scraped by to build roads in that state.

Anyways, #15 https://www.strava.com/activities/7475024766

Pretty sure this fox had dinner in their mouth... would be pretty late for them carrying a kit across the road. Not a great pic, I was pretty far away when I spooked it. Also lots of deer crossing right in front of me today! Guess I need to lay off the beer or deoderant. Something was triggering them.

You have a link to your profile, not your ride here. And since you still haven’t accepted my follow request 😉 I can’t see.
