23-24 Ski and Snowboard thread

Any suggestions on Big Sky lodging? Never been and trying to plot a trip for 8.

Funny you say this. We looked and the only reasonable lodging is in Bozeman. We decided to go to Banff this year instead. Far cheaper to stay up there.

We did a little side trip to break things up. Slept in Bozeman first night, ride bridger bowl the next day, drive to big sky.

Stayed on the mountain, one of the areas that has its own lift. Only it didn't have a restaurant! So drove anyway. Been awhile, went through last summer, and still seemed far between areas..

I was at Big Sky in 2016. Stayed at base area. Tried to go last year and lodging, tickets etc were 3X more. Ridiculous. Shame really as it’s an awesome mountain.

I stayed at a condo right near the Iron Horse lift, it was awesome, ski right down to lift in the am. Short walk back to the condo. It was in the Saddle Ridge complex. It's not inexpensive, but it was incredible. Big sky is really amazing, I've only been there once, but it is some great skiing. If possible, I can't recommend highly enough a snowmobile tour of Yellowstone. We were able to rent snowmobiles in West Yellowstone and go in by ourselves, I'm not sure if this is still an option, but even a guided tour would be worth it.

I've stayed at the Huntly Lodge, but that was 9 seasons ago. Nice place, slope side. Prices have probably gone through the roof as Big Sky in general used to be one of the more affordable mountains since it was hard to get to. Now with more direct east coast flights and Ikon passes, it's one of the more expensive areas to ski. Hit their breakfast buffet even if you don't stay there. Try for a day at Bridger Bowl too.

from what I have looked into.....either stay in Bozeman or its going to be MAD money.
That's a lot of driving if you're skiing BS for a week. It's pretty easy to get stuck behind a large slow truck and there is limited passing for long stretches.

OT, but this is just one of the problems with the cheap multi resort passes. Your lift tickets are now essentially free, so the resorts can rape you on everything else.

Interesting... Where are you staying?

Banff Rocky Mountain Resort:

We are 4 so we got this room for 5 nights:

Less than $1100 total for both couples. So you're talking $550 per couple, for a pretty solid place.

It's close to Sunshine Village/Norquay and maybe a 40 minute drive to Louise. Staying at Louise for 4 people was cost prohibitive at this point. Also, at this point places are disappearing almost hourly. We're going end of January.

Yeah, it's really nuts. There are some condo in Meadow Village area that seem somewhat reasonable but...
As I have told @Norm this is why I end up skiing in Utah so often. So easy to get to and find places to stay in salt lake. So many options within 30 or so minutes....im sure someone could present cases for big sky or jackson hole vs snowbird/alta/brighton/snowbird/deer valley/snowbasin.(Ikon)..and I would say, ok, fine, I can settle for the supreme bowl and the cirque and be ok with it.

We always stay in cottonwood heights. easy to get to both canyons via car or bus from the park and ride.

Man, those are unbelievable rates, i've never been. Looks like i'll go back to Ikon next year to check it out. I've only ever heard amazing things about lake lousie and Banff.

Was looking into this area as well. Is this basically a residential area?
Yes, and very convenient area. We had a condo we rented for years walking distance to the park and ride. Unfortunately the property is no longer a rental.

Its been 30 years since i last skied. My folks had a place in VT and I learned on Killington mountain. I decided to pick it up again this winter and got a season pass to Gore. After catching up with the post on this thread clearly i need to investigate this Ikon pass.

If anybody in your group has ever had a DWI, make sure they check with Canada to see if they will be let in. Several years ago I went to Whistler, one of the people on th etrip flew all the way to Vancouver, only to be denied entry in to Canada, because he got a DWI in the US, several years earlier. I guess it happens all the time.

Interesting. I got one when I was 17 but have been to Canada probably 30 times since then so I'm golden. My wife is Canadian so they can't stop her anyway. We have 2 other people with us, 1 of which went to Whistler 2 years ago. So we're like 75% sure this won't be an issue. 🙂
