Season over. Fractured and dislocated my right wrist with a fall at Pico on Friday. Skiing a blue went over a roller to find melted snow and a ditch on the other side. Slammed down and knocked the wind out of myself. Looked up and saw my buddy telling me to stay down next thing I know he was next to me screaming my name as I blacked out.
Took a few minutes, gathered my thoughts that were scrambled and realized my wrist was fucked, put my skis and made my way down to patrol. Quick splint and some stats and off to Rutland Medical Center where they took great care of me, x-rays, reset the dislocation and a bunch of laughs. Follow up appointment with HSS on Friday for surgery consultation.

oh man, really sorry to see this....did you get your scaphoid? Thats sucks, heal up quick!

Surgery on Thursday 😑
Comminuted and impacted intra-articular fracture of the distal radius involving the scaphoid and lunate fossae with gapping in the articular surface measuring approximately 1.3 x 1.3 cm. Several intra-articular fragments are seen within the radioscaphoid and radiolunate joints. There is also involvement of the distal radioulnar joint.
A fracture of the ulnar styloid is present.
There is volar and proximal displacement of the carpus relative to the distal radial articular surface and radial shaft. The scapholunate angle is decreased, measuring approximately 24 degrees.
Ugh, I needed surgery to fix my scaphoid, not fun sorry to hear this
Sorry about that!! Tough break, literally. If it makes you feel any better this whole season on the east coast has been tough and the outlook isn’t any better so you’re not going to miss much. Get well and look forward to next season. What the prognosis for MTB? When will you be able to get back on the bike?

A common message since the first x-ray was that I messed this up pretty badly. The specialist yesterday said 100/100 surgeons would say this needs surgery. They’ll be adding a plate.

Yeah, I hear ya on the conditions. I still managed to get 19 days so not all was lost. Had a few more weekends planned, but nothing major. Was looking forward to skiing April 8 for the eclipse but oh well.
Currently I have a cast from my hand to elbow and it’s difficult to do anything with. Post surgery they said I’ll be starting PT in two weeks so that sounds good. About 3 months till normal activities can start. Plenty of time to shop for an e-bike 🤓
First day skiing in zermatt today... Pretty wild... Decided to Gornergrat train which takes you from town at about 5000ft to around 10,000ft... Very weird feeling being on a train going up some steep hills. Fortunately /Unfortunately there was a decent amount of snow overnight and while the conditions in this area were great, alot of the other areas were closed due to avalanche danger. We mostly stayed in the riffleburg area. But it was great and we had a blast. Alex and I went playing in this off piste bowl and she ended up losing one of her poles...
Skiing next to the train was wild
on day 2, the sun came out and we finally got a look at this place.....then it hits you, this place is FUCKING MASSIVE.
I took this pics from miles away on the Sunnegga side and its zoomed in and you can barely make out the Matterhorn gondola....I have skied Park city, vail, some of the bigger places in the US....this place makes Vail look like blue mountain. We did 1 run this afternoon from the Trockner steg back into town....in total it was ~7miles and 6000ft of elevation change.
Trip has been amazing so far....the views are truly breathtaking, had some great powder yesterday and today in the higher elevations, the town is really cool, food is awesome......What a trip thus far.

That is some serious bucket list stuff right there Utah!
Took my son and nephew out to Beaver Creek for their spring break. We got to denver sunday night, we skied Beaver Creek yesterday and heading out again to Beaver. We got about 2-1/2 feet of snow!!! Powder everywhere. I need new legs, its impossible to keep up with 2 teenagers who play college sports. It was really nice to hear them complaining about their legs and back last night. It made me feel a little better, but not much.

Make sure you pick up some Toblerone! They aren't allowed to use the Matterhorn on the packaging anymore, only the Swiss.

Thank god I've never seen it at costco., I'm fat enough. By the way, costco is awesome! Best steaks in the state!
We actually did that last night at the supermarket, and dam they are good.... Of course Alex also bought us like 12 million dollars worth of chocolate from the laderach chocolate store in town... Which was to die for. The supermarket prices seem reasonable for a remote ski town... The restaurant prices are pretty bonkers....food is great tho.
