6 Mile Run Conditions

Guy complained to me today that the downed tree that is notched out on the blue shouldn't be there because the horse people can't get over the tree. Now, I was polite and blah blah blah but if it bothers the horse folk, let them get out there and do something about it. Or am i totally off base on this. I'm often wrong, or so im told. I really dig that obstacle.

Have you ever seen a horse? They can jump that in their sleep.

That section to ok 5 hours to clear. I will take some liberty with that one.

horses are challenged by bridges too, maybe we should build a land bridge or better yet run pipes and bury the streams. Riders who cant control their mount well enough to navigate in any area of xc type terrain should stay in the training ring.

Haha...my wife jumps 3' 9".....but most people out on trail rides are there to do just that, walk / canter trails. it would probably be too dangerous to jump anything at 6 mile...but dont quote me...

Also, i dont think telling the equestrian rider that they should come out to help with the maintenance is off base at all. Its a good idea, and should be participated by anyone using the trails...

Anyone is welcome to help. This tree work is no joke. Once all the trees are cleared there will be plenty of ground work to do.

We have had a few equestrians out over the years. They dig too.

Here's My take on the horses:
should riders come to do TM as well, OH ABSOLUTELY

Is the log in question too high for horses? for some yes it is. Not for all. Much like mountain bikers. Plus there is the problem with the "approach" to it.
If I was on a horse that wasnt able to handle that jump, I would just cut across through the woods. Just like many riders do where that stream crossing is by the humpy boardwalk bridge is on blue.

A horse or 2 cutting through the woods doesnt do near as much damage as a couple of bikes do when cutting corners. I rode horses quite a bit in the past and truth be told, I almost NEVER rode on trails, it was true cross country riding.

Anyway, I am probably WAY off base on this and should get my hand smacked. But to be honest, if I could afford a horse, I would be out on those trails on a horse more often than on a bike.

And when and how to they learn to do that except by heading out there? Really? Horses, much like humans, may react differently to things depending on the situation. They are not machines you know

So when you started riding a bike you were an expert from the start? Wow can I ride with you? You must be amazing.

Almost there..

We cleared the trail from S. Middlebush headed east to the rainbow bridge this am.

I have not been out on a bike in a while, only on foot. Please post back where the highest density of remaining fallen trees are.

Thanks

Just some shots of the type of work that needed to be done.
A huge thanks to the fellas that sacrifice their time and clear those HUGE heavy trees so the rest of us can bike, hike, ride horses...

The red trail near the canal lot

Is the freeze thaw in full effect? How are the conditions? Sounds like just the canal is rideable/clear?
