Allaire is still closed

Did not post this up to start any crap just did it to show that there are parks that are still on the closed list and I can see the park police starting to ticket... I think it sucks but I also can see the reason behind it. I also think a lot of this was due to the state of emergency that was posted..

I drove past Allaire today and decided to check out the hospital road trail head. There was no tape across the entrances of the parking lot and there were no DEP park closed signs posted anywhere in the vicinity. Not to mention the 10 or so cars in the lot. It's getting to be quite insane at this point. You'd think that after the better part of a month something would be happening. I understand that allaire was not the only park hit, and that the state does have other things to worry about at the moment, but there are a ton of volunteers who can easily clean up the small stuff (the fire road had a pretty huge tree across it which would probably need some heavy machinery)

Both Mike and I talked with Park Reps today and got the same answer...the trails are closed. The supervisor is extremely annoyed at the fact that folks are removing signs and tape. Consider yourselves warned is all I have to say at this point. If you enter the park you risk getting a ticket from Park Police, the lack of signs won't help you. We're as happy about this as the rest of you, Happy Thanksgiving.

did the reps mention any time frame as to when anything can or will be done?

We are coming out on the weekend of the 8th and 9th with the park to clear the roads and trails I was told after the allaire south side trail should be open.they cleared the railroad side last weekend so they are doing stuff it is just taking longer then expected..

R u for real

This is how I want my tax dollars to go to; cops making 80-100 thousand a year sitting in a park parking lot, be real!
Somehow six mile has been all cleared did park personal clean up their trails very doubtful.
Close to month now that Sandy has been here and all that has been done by park rangers is tie some tape at the entrance.
Pretty sure they are not breaking any speed records while at work!

Working on the road

Do you drive at all? People drive like idiots and do not slow down at all; I think it's a little more dangerous then sitting in a parking lot!
Tell me about when you have one of your friends cut down at the knees and his co-worker killed by a driver, pretty sure if they were in a parking lot this wouldn't happen.
Have a great thanksgiving!

Safety

Martz,

For starters those trucks Like PS or JCPL, do you think the town is paying for that road job? No they arent, the funding comes from the the elec comp or cable comp to provide security for its workers.. Cmon you really think the state is worried about opening its parks right now..Im fortunate enough to still have my house..If you want to ride go to Ny or Del or 6 Mile..I spent many of hours with Jdog and a few others to clear as much of the trail there with permission from the park of course. Im just saying.. I understand everyone wants to ride as do I, but sometimes things are worth waiting for.

Happy Turkey day to all!!!!!

This is correct but actually that cost gets passed along to the consumers..that would be you and me paying our gas and electric bills.

Yes as everything else in life like taxes, but its like comparing oranges and apples... IMO if theres a sign or tape up stating park is closed then as adults we should stay out, not have to place an officer there to tell people to stay out. What ever happened to the term "Community Policing." Lets just hope this gets fixed soon.

Agreed

How many people cyclist or whatever do 25mph in a 25 zone, answer not many if any, people break the law/s every day what do you think makes going into a closed park any different?
Doesn't make it right just human nature, littering, speeding and whatever else they can get away with [paid in cash to not pay taxes].

Just reminding all of you that the Allaire State Park Trails are still closed. Jorba has worked very hard to build relationships with the land manger. However, the park still feels it should remain closed until safe. Jorba asks that you support this closure and do not do anything to jeopardize bike access in the future.

If the park decision is one you can not live with, please write them a letter and explain why. Perhaps an overwhelming response from the community will push clean up along.

just wondering isn't 6 mile reservoir also still considered closed? Yet thanks to a large group of us, it's now 99% cleared and everyone can enjoy it. Allaire is way closer to me, and I hate the idea that it could be a month or two before I get in there

Perhaps 6 Miles Superintendant is more sympathetic to our needs than Allaires. Their focus is clearly on revenue generating. This has ALL of us extremely frustrated! As Ellen stated, perhaps a few hundred phone calls to the office will change things. At this point, the many calls Mike and I have made have not made a difference.
As pointed out earlier by an experienced tree sawyer, it's the widow makers that they are concerned about. Unlike all other parts of the park, they can't get at these with a bucket truck. I know the easy answer to riding here, or other parks that are still closed is to say Fukitol and go in anyway, but that will only serve to work against us in the future. The current plan is for the 8th and 9 th for a tm session WITH the park folk, perhaps a full lot of volunteers with bikes on the racks will show who cares!

Just thought id share this. I drove past the park on turkey day on my way to Moms and the parking lot was FULL. I mean like it was a Sunday, 70*, and sunny full. I spoke to one guy coming off the trails and he had no idea the park was closed. He said most of the trail is cleared except for a half a dozen big trees. He did not ride the river or tiger. Most of those trees already have trail cut around them. He said some of the trees were obviously chain saw cut. I guess most people are getting it cleaned on the own, unless some park guys have been out. I can only hope this doesn't ruin it for the rest of us.

Joe
