Need bike purchase, trails, and riding buddy advice....
it's my first day on the site! I'm excited to get on the trails.
First I need some advice from you guys....
1) I'm in Central NJ. What is the best shop to buy a bike?
2) What bike do you think I should get? I'm not a rookie, but far from a seasoned trail rider. 🙂
3) How do I find buddies or clubs to ride with?

Hey Joe,
You'll probably get more responses if you start your own thread...
To get you going though:
1) There are lots of good shops in central Jersey check the shop directory http://www.mtbnj.com/wiki/Category:Shop_Directory
2) bike type depends on a few things and is highly personal: price range, riding style are two main ones. I'm sure lots of people will chime in with suggestions. Talk to the guys at whichever shop you go to and they'll hook you up.
3) You just found a whole forum of people to ride with... check the "rides and races" section for group ride postings. Rides are posted all the time there. Check the Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association (JORBA) for info on different parks in jersey. They're doing a ride series, 2011 JORBA ride series thread

hey Joe think Bill pinged it post a hello thread and you will get a boat load of suggestions.
I like Halters,Brielle and Brick bikes as for what bike to get I would say set a price range then ride all the ones in that range between 26 and 29 inch bikes.
some will say you need a 9'er and some will say you need a SS it is up to you but what ever you get you do need to ride it.

Hey Joe! Welcome!
Where to purchase a bike from will probably depend on what bike you decide to purchase. Obviously shops carry different brands, so if you have your heart set on something, you might have already narrowed your search down. Also, where are you located? There are some good shops all over the place. I live in Cranford, and Tom at CBS always gets me what I need, but if you're closer to another shop, that may be better for you.
And I think this is a pretty good place to find some riding buddies!!
