Anyone know how to disassemble a BMW bumper cover (without cracking anything)?

One of the parking sensors fell into the bumper cover. Most of the forums just say to remove the whole bumper to access these. Looking at the exploded view, it looks like if I can remove #19, 20 or 21 I should be able to get my arm in there. I just don't want to start cracking various grill pieces.

The piece on the right side is a tow hook cover which is designed to come out, is there enough access from there?

Tearing down a BMW bumper is not a fun project. Most of the things clip in but you might need to get behind the grilles and such to release tabs, in which case you're removing the whole cover. I'd try to finagle it in first before ripping stuff apart.

Another approach would be either in through the wheel well or maybe loosen a splash shield from underneath.

Yes. There is a threaded bar behind there to tie the car down with. That cover should pop off fairly easily. Maybe even push in on the lower inner corner.

Will check when I'm home. I was going to go thru the wheel well if I need to. Less likely to damage something visible.

#19 will come out, but the tabs are thick and stiff. You'll feel like your breaking it to get it out, but it's better than the whole bumper cover and it's 99 fasteners. Push down on the top tabs while you pull from the front, then work your way around.

This was what I was hoping, but this one will also be the most noticeable to the wife if I totally screw it up.

i also wonder if there are any baffles in there which could STILL prevent you from getting to the sensor which popped out even if you get #19 out

Finally got around to this when my plumbing repair came to a halt yesterday. Popped off the cover and was able to access the sensor. Modern high tech German engineering. They use two sided tape to hold, it in place. Tape failed. So it's taped back in place until the first time she drives thru a car wash. Then I just unplug it and she can deal. Only seven more sensors taped in place waiting to dry out and fail.

Pull it with plug in hand or ride it out and see what happens?

personally I dont like to mess around with this based on the highway driving i need to do, I just take it to the local tire place and let them decide whats best.

sometimes they take the tire off and also fix from the inside depending on what the damage is. worth the minimal expense to make sure I am not stuck in the rain on the side of the road to save a few bucks.

My middle son got a broken bolt into his tire of his brand new car at 400 miles and they were able to patch it without him buying a new tire.

ride it out till you get to the tire shop, have them fix it CORRECTLY, this means a plug/patch (one piece patch with a rubber plug looking thing that gets pulled through the hole) installed from the inside of the tire, last one i did cost me <$20, and outlasted the tire. the plugs will work loose and cause you to be constantly topping off the air.

of course it is also possible that they pull it out and it wasnt deep enough to puncture then your all good to go, but dont pull it yourself, let the tire place do it.
