BB7's-mattybfat?

You WILL fall for my heavy-handed attempt at mind control:

So since you've been riding discs since 2009, your now an authority on discs? Have you even ridden (not just tried) hydros, vs. most who've run both? Then again, your on an SS so how much braking power do you need anyway.
haha, not taking the bait on this troll attempt.
Come ride with me kemosabe, that's all I'll say.
I've owned/ridden extensively:
early hayes in '99 when I was sponsered by trek and had a 8900SL
been on hayes hfx/etc etc junk
marta sl
juicy 5's
XX
several others

bb7s are on both rides now, I think that speaks to how I feel about them.
For me at 150 pounds, former semi-pro racer on a dinky little singlespeed thats fine, if you need more power, wonderful, great, I'm really happy for you. Whatever works for you is the best option out there.

From the guy who preached that hope hubs were junk....

Then snatched up a wheel set laced to hopes from under me...

Matty is a flopper (and I'm bitter 😛)

Matt, whats the most recent/modern set of hydros you've owned?

You never followed up on my post that those POS were for someone else 😀

Hadley first then king then BHS then somewhere at the bottom next to formula you will find Hope

Xc was martas/quads i do have codes on the DH but i will admit that bb7s dont belong there.

& also said 26ers were dead to him (& then when & bought 1 & loved it) :hmmm:

Ha nice catch good thing you didnt see the pic of the nomad. It had hydros and hope hubs 😀 i thought i was done with slope riding and we all can agree 29ers don't belong there. Besides the sled my only other bike mtb is a SS 29er just saying.

>>I was the biggest holdout on discs and raced on v brakes up until 2009ish...<<

Not even close. I still have canti brakes on two of my mountain bikes, but I'm switching my Karate Monkey over to BB-7's this week. It was only a couple of years ago that I had my first non canti Mtn bike when I put V's on my Curtlo. I put BB-7's on my Blackbuck when I bought a few years ago since it's disc only.

Discussions like this are useless unless you go into some detail of what, where, and how you ride and your body weight, fitness and skill. I'm 142 pounds and have ridden SS only since the early 90's. I ride XC, am more of a climber and don't really take chances anymore so any type of brake works well for me if it's adjusted properly.

Hey mattybfat?!

Or anyone who knows these...
A technical question-should the outer pad "push" or flex the rotor onto the inner (I may have that backwards)...or not at all, or just a little? I didn't look closely (sorry) but I assume the inner pad doesn't actuate just gives the outer a surface to press against. I read Jmanics link which had some good info but didn't see anything about this.
Thanks!

Side note the levers you really want are the avid ultimates you know the $225 ones.

Dunno if you saw in the other thread but I did get the speed dial 7's...for $19.95 shipped what the hell, they do help with the setup.

The Ultimates...yeah for that kinda cash I could almost score a nice set of hydros! <ducks>😀

I had Avid's for a couple of years in two bikes and had to visit the shop in a few occasions to bleed, adjust, etc. When Matty recommended BB7's for my SS I was a bit wary of their stopping power but, as Matty said, if they can stop him, they can stop me 🙂 Really, no problems whatsoever with that, AND you can adjust the pads quickly on the go without tools.

Edit: I'm a bit late to the party 🙂 I read the first page and thought that was it. Then I saw my post appeared on the 6th page.

Those ultimate levers cost as much as hydro brakes 😎

I haven't paid that cost you can find deals on them out there and they are so worth it. I think most who have tried BB7s never had them matched to ultimate levers. They really make the difference and I will leave it at that.

Before I got rid of the bb7's on my fat bike, I had an Avid Speed Dial SL lever that greatly improved the performance over the FR5 levers.
