Bentonville, AR/NWA

What it is - I am thinking I will be stopping out here in the end of March. Weather looks to be 45-65 per AI.

Thinking of brining my 29” trail bike and doing a full day here on my way to AZ/UT.

Anything I should avoid or embrace?

My usual half way stop en route to and from AZ, UT, CO is Mt Nebo about 2 hrs south of Bentonville. Awesome little state park with a quiet campground at the top of the mountain. Incredible riding right off your campsite. Nice clean showers and a welcome break after the drive. Exposure, tech, rocks/roots, and smooth machine cut stuff as well. I personally enjoy this more than Bentonville but I’m much more introverted the older I get.

100% worth the stop, up there with some of the best riding I’ve ever done.

Nebo on the way out Bentonville on the way back, keeps the stoke high along the way. Driving gets old real quick especially on the way home.

Really hard to go wrong there and you could spend 2 weeks riding daily and still see new stuff.

If one day, with the limited experience I had while there for 4 days:

If XC riding, Tunnel Vision was amazing. 25 miles, 3k of vert
If enduro style, go to Coler and hit as many downhill runs as you can handle the climb back up.

and having been to both, Sedona>Bentonville, but both fun as hell.

To clarify, you're just doing a single day out there?
My plan right now is to get there late 3/21. I have no constraints beyond being in Moab Utah on 3/29, but may stop in Sedona on the way to ride bicycles or Saint George to ride moto and catch sunrise at Bryce Canyon.

I was thinking a day to day and a half in Bentonville, riding my legs out - then making the drive to AZ. I know you know Sedona, if it is worth skipping for more time in Bentonville I am open to staying there as I have been to Sedona (I was just too out of shape to bicycle while I was there).

This is awesome - thank you! This will be on a trip to AZ/UT as well!

At the risk of stating an unpopular opinion, I think Bentonville proper is a tad overrated. I think you need to spend time in these satellite spots if you go down there. Never been to Nemo but I have heard of it.

@Johnny Utah - IMO Sedona is better than Bentonville.
I needed this too - thank you!

A stretch of the legs and sleep in Nemo is looking better!

It looks like I'm set for two-three days the first week of May in Bentonville also on the way to Moab/Zion.

Looking for an AirBnB to work out of so the city proper in my mind makes sense hence why I'm looking at Bentonville as there's not a lot of options between here and CO. While we are likely staying in Bentonville proper I'm willing to drive a bit to better trails, preferably if it's north of the city to continue on our trip.

Holy crap there's NOTHING on Trailsforks in Kansas.

From re-reading this thread, is there in 2026 Must-Hit set of trails for a one to two day trip passing through? It's not really clear.

Where is Tunnel Vision?

Coler & Slaughter Pen while I hear mixed review seem very accessible from town where Little Sugar/Back 40 seem accessible leaving town to the north. But even with that it looks to be only a 20 minute drive or so from Bentonville to those trails.

Tunnel vision is the newer mirror loop directly to the west of the back 40 loop. It was done by a “better trail making company” as per the local mechanic at the meteor FWIW. We loved the trail. Where we started is 15 min from downtown.

If you have trouble seeing below I’ll DM you the gpx.

Thanks! Shows up in trail forks in the Little Sugar / Bella Vista area.

Likely a good one to hit on the way out of town towards CO.

If you're doing the Back 40 (including Tunnel Vision) make sure you have some decent sidewall protection. They got some serious rain that washed a ton of sharp rocks onto the trail tread...never seen so many flats in my life. It's a cool trail, gets extremely repetitive after about 15 miles though.

I keep hearing that the assumption that the trails are basically man-made paved trails for XC bikes is incorrect and that once the rain washes off the fresh dirt it's a ton of sharp rocks.

I think all our tires are EXO+ on the bikes we're taking.

Yeah. The soil there is a lot like CR in some ways.

If you’re there for just 2 days I absolutely would not do the Back 40. Nor Little Sugar.

Agreed! And @Norm what was the name of the street our AirBnB was on? Drainage Ditch Ave? Sewerline Street? Something like that.
