Periodically my wife will go on a beer hunt. I remember she was looking for KBS, a store told her over the phone they had it, 10 min later she arrived at the store and they told her it was gone. Most likely it was in the back room tucked away for employees and vip customers. For the really hard to find stuff you kinda need a connection.

Yeah, stuff like that I figure if I've heard about it, it's already gone.

But yes, it helps to have a relationship with the lbs as @mattybfat says.
Over the holidays I brought my beer guy a 4-pack of his favorite stuff he wasn't able to get in stock. Pretty sure he'll remember that.
 
Even if isn't your LBS, just ask if they got something hidden in the back. Sometimes it works.

call pine creek, they are on the goto list now. seems like they get good stuff, but are just enough out of the way.
 
@Robson those are over loaded around here yet I got zero shapes to come this year. Wish they reversed the production of these.
