Ok red meat lovers, I have been on a life's journey for find the best steak in NJ. So far it's been Ruth's Chris in Princeton. What's your recommendation?

I've had great steaks and excellent service at Morton's in Boston and Chicago. I have not been to the Morton's Hackensack, NJ location, but I would bet it would top Ruth's Chris steaks.

My wife had a very good filet mignon at the Trap Rock Brewery in Berkley Heights, and the beer I had there was great!

Enjoy the journey!

I like Cliff's Steakhouse in Fort Lee. It's basically a clone of Peter Luger's.

I've been to Morton's in Hackensack which was excellent, but haven't been to any other Morton's to compare it to.

I haven't been to Cliff's Steakhouse in Fort Lee or Peter Luger's. Maybe I'll get to Cliff's in Fort Lee before I get to Peter Luger in Brooklyn.

Thanks for the tip!

The best I've had is Peter Lugers. Wolfgang is an exact clone of Lugers, and its easier to get to, but they are both in NYC.

In nj Ruth Chris is great. They have a really big menu (not necessary, but somtime's you may bring a lady who would appreciate the options).

Char in Raritan has great steak, but the sides are lacking.

Honestly, I'd rather go to a butcher, splurge on some dry aged cut of what ever the butcher recommends, and grill it myself. For the price you pay at one of these steak houses for a dinner for two, you could feed 6 if you do it yourself.

This! As far as i am concerned, all the "big name" steakhouses candy their steaks. whether its garlic butter, montreal seasoning (i dont know how people use this), etc...the best steaks are the ones you make yourself...

Costco has great steaks for great prices! I usually get the strips, filets, rib eyes, or porterhouses...

Ruth Chris is good, dont get me wrong though. Char was good as well, but i felt that it was unnecessarily expensive...

And then you can call me over :getsome:

I've heard good things about Roots in morristown. I was a huge Ben Bensons fan til the closed. Next up for the city is Ben and Jacks and Club 21

I haven't tried enough places in NJ to say that it's the best,
but I'll say Fleming's in Edge Water is worth a try.
Some interesting options on the menu, and both steaks and sides are solid.
Add to that a crazy wine selection, and that's a good time.

Now if we cast the net a little further into NYC,
I'll throw out Keen's for consideration. A nice take on things-
traditional but not stodgy. Once again steaks and sides are both very good.
Add to that something like 200+ singlemalts by the glass for dessert- bam.

And I'll also agree with Jeremy on the home grilling.
A nice salt & pepper crust and a good bottle of red- again, bam.

I'm a foodie, and have a prretty big circle of foodie friends. One of my goto guys is friend of mine who is a cop in town, has ridden his motorcycle across the country several times and likes to eat. He literally pulled me over one night to tell me about this place. I havent gotten here yet, but as soon as the wife and I can get out its on our list. His words, "hands down the best steak you will have in NJ".
