Book of Paul H

BTW... whats EMS?

Eastern Mountain Sports, like a Campmor or REI.

You could also checkout Wyckoff Cycle. I've never been, but it should be local to you and I'm pretty sure the owner rides at High Mountain. A friend bought a bike there and had nothing but good things to say.

Just looked up Wyckoff Cycle. I am smack in the middle between Bicycle Tech and Wyckoff Cycle. Looks like I have more options at LBS than I originally thought.

Thank you for the info guys!

Sorry... I'm a little slow today... well maybe just not today but not getting the SLJ reference. What am I missing?

C8N Translation = MOFO

Samuel L Jackson - an actor that uses the word MOFO all the time. In fact, he uses it to overcome a speech impediment

I was going to include a youtube compilation of his use of MOFO but I felt it was a tad inappropriate.

Knee still f'ed up. Even my left knee is bothering me.
Should have stayed off the bike but the kid wanted to go to the park. So why not... packed up the mtb and off we go to my favorite park.... Saddle River. Dropped off the wife and kid at Otto and did some light off roading. Probably did about 5 -6 miles but who knows... I was offline from strava. Knees felt better and I am left to wonder if I would have been able to complete the Bear mt ride.... One things for sure... I am not missing the next one.

Got the box of stuff from jumpa. Thanks again btw. Pulled the walgoose out of storage and tore it apart only to find out that the RD hanger is fixed on to the RD. Wft! And I should have bought some gear cables. Eh... another noob move. Did change the front and I think I am getting better at indexing. The RD shifts better than ever even with the original RD. I wonder if I can buy a hanger tho... would love to change it.

Spent an hour in the garage staring at the walgoose.
What to do with this POS... stripped the bolt on the rear shifter... can't get the damn thing off. Why am I even bothering with this?
Does a sram shifter work with a shimano altus derailleur? Or anyone have a 7 or 8 speed shimano shifter to donate?

Got locking grips... just got it installed.
Man that was a labor of love... from all that twisting and pulling,,, my hands hurt

Take it apart and put it back together. It will go a long way in helping you learn about bike wrenching. I might have something in my parts bin as shifter goes.

Thank you... this is a good reason to ride to Fort Lee.

Went out to the garage again... but this time, it wasn't for the walgoose but my Giant Talon 27.5 4
Took apart the headset and regreased the top and bottom barring and tore apart the fork... well... half way. Took apart the left side only and cleaned and regreased the springs.
I guess the right side is hydraulics? It didnt feel like springs. Its a SR Suntour XTC I think. There was a squeak at the forks before but thats gone now. 🙂
BTW... its too late now but was there anything else I should have done?

Hope the damn thing doesn't fall apart on me this weekend while riding....

While I was test riding for a couple of minute... I was practicing the bunny hop. I can lift up the front and back... but they go up at the same time or only the front goes up. I guess I am not shifting my weight fast enough?

You might want to post as separate thread in Shop Talk. I know nothing about suspension. I don't know if it's as simple as regreasing. Might require bathing in oil and such.

Went out for a short ride at HM this morning.
Damn phone wouldn't catch my location so strava missed about 2-3 miles. Wet leaves made things pretty slippery and didn't make for a fun day at the park. In addition, with my knees still hurting.... took things pretty easy. I was so cautious, it would have made any 4yr old's moms proud. Walked the bike quite a bit which reminded me of the my first time riding at HM.

Got some gear cables and worked on the walgoose. It aways had a problem at the front deraileur. Found out that the cable housing went to the crappers.
Regardless, changed all the gear cables and housing and adjusted the brake cables. The walgoose now shifts pretty well... except there is a bit of chain rub but nature called and just wrapped it up for the day.

I wish I had some beer....
