Anyone own or shop for a used Cayman or Boxter? Thinking about something fun to drive. Won't be a garage queen at all. Probably will be abused and put away wet. @Carson 's worst nightmare.

I’ve shopped extensively for a Cayman. Whichever one you get, get no less than the S, a GTS if you can swing it. I’ve driven both the old 6cyl and the flat-4. The 4 is way, way faster than the old 6. Doesn’t sound as good, but it doesn’t sound bad to my ears either, especially when your rev it out. I’m not one of these blazer with the elbow patch Wearing Porsche purists, so I wasn’t offended by the 4. You can probably find a good deal on one somewhere. Whichever one you get will be a lot of fun, they do live up to the hype handling wise.

I have a 2009 Cayman. It's a great car. Mine is definitely not a garage queen. I'm sure if I drove an S or a more recent one that I'd like it better, but they're all fantastic. I test drove a poor example of a 1997 Boxster some years back and that was a blast as well. Don't think you can go wrong as long as it's mechanically sound, but I personally like the 2009-2011 cars for their relative simplicity, but still feeling reasonably modern and comfortable as well. Also no IMS/RMS to go wrong, although it's getting harder to find good examples from that "987.2" generation.

No idea of your price range or manual/PDK. Or your preference for 4T versus the flat-6.

Thanks for the legwork. No real preferences yet. I'm looking at this as a basically free fun car. Figure I can spend about $30k using just some of my AAPL profits before @Dave Taylor 's predicted stock crash. I'll probably wait till it goes up another hundred/share before I take some profits.

Buy the OCMD Cayman. I'll drive it back. Guaranteed you won't have any carbon build up.

Slow rolling Lambo - he did crack it under an overpass. Sounded great.
