Car-spotting thread

You already have a Tesla and/or Range Rover for hauling the clubs to the golf course after a hard day of pocketing money out of everyone’s 401k and calling your secretary sugar tits. You need something that says “I’m a cool guy” just like the 10,000 other people in this town. C8 or 911?

Kicking tires the last few Saturdays to try and find what I like for my next vehicle and what fits in the budget without compromising HP and sportiness somehow.

My 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T only has 105K miles and a ton of replacement warranty parts but it needs a few thousand bucks of work and wear and tear things i just don’t think it’s worth doing. Didn’t help when I hit a deer back in Oct and messed up the front bumper.

Drove a 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy 2.5T a few weeks ago just to drive one. It only had like 33k miles and they wanted 24K online. When I showed up to drive it the passenger side door had this huge dent in it. It’s the first one I drove so wanted to feel it out. Was impressed with the ride and has quite a bit more pep than my current one (265 vs 281hp). Just for the hell of it I let him run the numbers. He came back and with a straight face showed me a sheet with 6-7000 in fees and add ons plus taxes so OTD price 34,500. Oh and this did not include fixing the dent. I literally laughed at him and got up and walked out.

The good news at least is that model is in the running.

2023 ford escape platinum eco boost.

Everything about the car is blah. This car didn’t even have the powered liftgate. Again drove it just to try it. I was prepared to be unimpressed with the power but it was pretty quick considering. But also a bit too small inside for what I need.

Inside the dealership they seem to have an affinity for Hennessy models. This cobra replica was also pretty sweet.

I dislike the entire car buying experience. I know for a fact I was fleeced buying cars when I was younger and single.

There are so many games and tactics that I’m turned off to the whole thing. Just advertise a price and let me buy it! When I buy a fridge or washer, it’s so easy. I’ve even bought those online. For people like me who honestly suck at negotiating, it means I’ll pay a premium over others with more knowledge and perhaps stomach for the gamesmanship.

I know it’s not something that can be fixed and is tolerated by the car makers since they don’t want to be in the car distribution and servicing side of the transaction. But it still sucks.

Anyway, good for you on walking out. That is the best piece of leverage you have over them.

Carvana. My friend just bought an F150. Went to the Dealer first, was getting jerked around, he left, bought the same truck online and it was dropped off a few days later. Zero hustle bros involved in the process. Or, when I bought my car I bought and paid for it online with my own financing and just had to pick it up at the Dealer. They tried to get me with warranty and service packages but I just told them up front that I'm never coming back here ever again after this so, no.

Right I sold a car, well my husband did, to one of the the big online car dealers, could have been Carvana too. It was as easy as filling out a form, receiving an offer, and dropping it off. The payment was made to our bank account minutes later. Sooo easy!

@iman29 inhave a 2023 CX50. You are welcome to a test drive. I’m in Madison. I really like mine. Have 37k on it since new and its been trouble free other than occasional connectivity glitches with CarPlay (strangely only with Google Maps). Can carry a XXL FS bike in the back with seats folded down and with out having to move the drivers seat forward. Surprisingly roomy. And drives like a sporty wagon. No wallowing in the turns. Fun to drive.

I bought my Miata off Carvana and had it delivered. Had to pay a little extra for delivery, but totally worth it to not have to interact with defective humans. Do they do new vehicles?

This is what I liked about buying from Tesla and Rivian. The price is the price, no negotiating. The whole process is so much easier.
