Checking Luggage: Adventures in Time Bending 9178

I have no idea what we would do without you...I mean any of us can put up arrows and tape...I would last about 6 minutes before I went on a rampage if I had to do your job. Me and Pearl...man, picture that shit...we should do it and make a TV show for the fun of it. How long until Utah throws the laptop at pearls head.

that would be just about as interesting as Sean's 4 hour audio recording during his mooch race. I'd pay for that.

Road trip starts in about 1.5 hours. Hoping to make it to the PA/Ohio border tonight.

Made it. Saw the Jersey Shore exit but did not get fooled thanks to @clarkenstein's heads up. Here's the recap in @soundz' bullet format.
  • Leave at 6:02pm
  • Sit in 80 volume until out past Allamuchy.
  • Make good time through the Poconos.
  • First stop at the Jack Frost/BB exit Wawa for an early evening energy drink and pit stop
  • Start making good time through a pitch black PA
  • Pit stop #2 (not for #2) at some random exit in nowheresville PA
  • Pit stop #3 for gas toward the end of PA.
  • Cross into Ohio around 11:30, plan was to stop and grab a room at a hotel cluster, but I'm feeling good so we press on
  • Speed limit bumps to 70 in Ohio, increase cruise control accordingly
  • Make better time
  • Around hour 7/1:00 am I decide its not a great idea to keep going since I've been up since 5:30. Stop #4 at a rest stop, grab two hours of ZZZ's in the parking lot. The 35 week pregnant wife brought a bunch of blankets in pillows to make sure she could get comfortable, this doubled as excellent car camping gear.
  • Uncomfortable as shit
  • Wake up freezing cold (its ~30* out) at 3am.
  • Back on the road
  • We stop about every hour or so now to freshen up the legs and wake up a bit. Pit stops #'s 5, 6, and 7 through the rest of Ohio and Indiana. Get more gas in here somewhere.
  • Chicago countdown signs show up, thanks for the reminder every 10 miles for 200 miles.
  • Stop #8 about an hour from destination (i think)
  • Start approaching Chicago right at 7:30 local
  • Great, its rush hour
  • Last 15 miles take an hour, feels like home
  • Just over 14 hours later, ~11 hours moving, ~780 miles, Arrive.
  • sleep time? or party time? not sure yet.
Wedding is tomorrow night.

Kudos to Kayla and you for making this long drive with a 35-week pregnant women. Glad you made it there safely!

how many spots of construction did you go through in PA where they make you cross over to the other side of the highway? when i used to to that drive regularly i would average about 5 of those per trip.

how many spots of construction did you go through
There was only one where we crossed over and I think it was in Ohio. But we must have went through at least a dozen sections that were coned down to one lane, some went on for miles. I only saw construction occurring in one. I'm pretty sure they were just shuffling cones around in the others.

Man, I'm off the board for a few days and I miss all the excitement. We're back from Chi town. We drove back during the day on Monday. No recap needed, the drive was pretty uneventful. We did some touristy stuff on Sunday, Chicago definitely seems like a cool city. I won't go out of my way to go back, but I'm sure I'll find an occasion to spend more time there and check it out more at some point down the road.

Countertops went in yesterday afternoon, so that saga is mostly over. The plumbing went back together nicely. The new sink drain is deeper and slightly further back so I was able to use the existing pipes by cutting a few pieces shorter. I have to touch up around the backsplash and the pass throughs. I'll do that sometime this week, then we can finally put our kitchen back together. The install guys did a good job. I think the counters actually came out great, too bad the cabinets still look like shit.

Kitchen is officially done. I'm happy to have reclaimed our condo. Its nice to not have pots, pans, and kitchen appliances spread throughout our dining room.

This past week and the next two have and will be a bit chaotic. Then we'll be approaching our due date, so the end of May/early June is when the real fun begins.

One of the perks of working in Manhattan is you can run out during the day and get almost anything you might need. Food? Anything you want. Need to grab some new shoes or a fresh shirt an outing coming up? Check. Find an ATM? Easy. Oil filter? Not so much. Auto parts stores are seemingly in every town in NJ, but as I found out Friday apparently Manhattan-ites have no use for them.

Anyone else catch the fight Saturday? I ended up at a fight party Saturday night. It was overhyped and 5 years to late. Still, its crazy impressive how quick those guys can move and throw punches.

Edit: One more random thought. Driving around yesterday I had the sunroof open and windows cracked with the AC on. Felt good. @pearl, too soon to start the countdown thread for turning on air conditioning?

10 yrs too late, but the results would have been the same. PacM would have had better hand speed but MayW's counterpunching and defense is near impossible to break through. The fight was too tactical by even PacM, I think he was looking too much to not be caught and by mid rounds, MayW always takes control. MayW fights are usually not the most exciting, great execution though. Kind of like watching 90s Devils play the neutral trap.

speaking of jersey shore, remember that cult like circle that was at our hotel that night before the S50? i thought we were going to have to sacrifice falco.

Wow, surprised to see this thread still on the first page. I'm back? Maybe. I'm not sure where I want to take this thread now. Time to at least pop in for a quick update. I haven't been on the site much at all the past two weeks. I was looking forward to jumping on the Nassau ride but life had other plans. Speaking of that ride, big thanks again to @Juggernaut and @qclabrat for offering up those parts. I was able to grab them from @soundz.

So here's our new addition to the family:

Noah, born 7:31 am on May 23. Weighing in at 7lbs. 7oz, 20 inches long. I'm happy to report that so far mom and baby are both healthy and doing well. The wife has really bounced right back and is doing awesome.

This could definitely get incredibly long winded, so I'll attempt to keep it brief. Over the past almost year now everyone has given me their 2cents on what its like to be a parent. I've heard many different experiences and perspectives. For me, simply stated, its the greatest thing I've done. The emotional highs and lows and fatigue over the past couple of weeks have all been worth it for this little dude. I know its just the beginning of a long adventure, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Congrats - Only piece of advice I can give is: Give the kid plenty of rope.... Don't be one of those parents that follows the kid around with hand sanitizer and wraps them in bubblewrap. I did this with my first kid and he's all eff'd up in the head. The last kid seems to be the most well rounded cause he just runs wild with no supervision 🙂
