Chimney Rock Conditions

Someone want to tell me how they were only cutting 34 trees?

Assuming they want to come from vossler to the bend on the middle left side of the pic...
(the pics still look excessive)

So I was there on Friday afternoon. I think they were just starting. They posted trail closed signs. Pretty sure I saw a Somerset county truck there too overseeing it…
I just saw this patch on FB and needed to check in here too

Could some of those wood chips be used to help fill and/or firm up notoriously wet and soft areas of the trail system?
I’m not saying I want to ride on wood chip trails but some of the mud pit spots may benefit with wood chips mixed with soil.

This one is down on pink, which will probably get used more now that the yellow trail is cut off.

The second is down on yellow, Yellow Twisties, just before the 4 way intersection.

I’m rarely one to support an eminent domain scenario but how can a private road lead to a public park? I feel like the easy decision would have been to acquire the existing road for public use….but I’m not an attorney so who knows the legal BS that goes along with that. Super disappointing

Another article:

How does the township get caught off guard on something like this? They don't have anyone observing a project like this?
No, they don’t have the resources. This was a county job and up to the county to monitor. Typically, the “owner” (in this case the county) hires a sub-consultant who inspects the contractor’s work to ensure it’s up to spec. Depending upon the type of work they may be inspecting full time or just a few times a week to monitor (I suspect the latter for a job like this).

Others with vested interests (like the township) may also stop in from time to time to check on things, but since the township is not the “owner” they are not the responsible party to make sure the work gets carried out to spec. They may have the right to stop the work due to permitting issues, but all of that gets fuzzy really quickly.
