Chimney Rock Conditions

someone will have to be the guinea pig, might as well be you! i imagine the lower blue trails are dead, but yellow should be okay

Didn't get to yellow, but blue was pretty nice...I did stay away from the creek side portion, though. Red needs a bit more time, it was soggy in quite a few sections.

it did rain last night, not sure how much but the roads were wet. probably not terrible but not "pretty nice"... go do yellow lapzzz

Confirmed yellow is good to go. The newest trail they built along the water was damp in spots, but the OG high tech and the rest was all good to go. I climbed up orange and it was soggy. The switchback area was good though.

Rode Saturday afternoon. Plus 1 on the above-no water on Yellow. Interior Blue was good. White twisties wet. The new Red section is dry. It was messier than I thought it would be, but only because I had ridden RV the day before.

Also, there is a tree down on the Yellow twisties near the Miller Lane lot; a tree down toward the top of Blue (near the wooden bridge); and another tree on Orange (I forget where, but can park on Gilbride and take a short walk up the hill).

The locals are aware and this is in progress. I believe the one by miller's is already gone.

Decent conditions but some areas showing ruts, worst I saw was orange by gilbrde and up top from guardrail. Yellow mostly solid throughout. Red and white are 2.5 but didn't go to blue. Guess with more rain and higher temps and remaining thaws probably will be worse tomorrow, so rating it a 2 for awareness

Was there this morning . While things where pretty frozen you can see that there's a ton of moisture in the ground and the warmer temps and pending rain will make things pretty bad this weekend. Please avoid until things harden up Sunday night. The rain from last weekend was substantial. Lots of debris down, ruts and new root exposure on a bunch of the fall line stuff. Really surprised at how noticeable it is all over the park. A few tress down but those will be taken care of quickly.

Also the fence closure at the end of Gilbride and CR Road has been reopened. Someone had cut a hole in the fence this week & the Park got the County Road guys to fix it. It's a ton wider & in much better spot than it was before. It's a shame that it took an illegal act to get the Road people back out there but it's done.

Rode this morning. 90% frozen. Most of the ice is rideable or at least visible. We stayed off lower red and lower blue though. LOTS of frozen ruts. I guess people rode on Saturday after the rains. Overall very good winter conditions.

Jay ran today. He said he is going to try and ride on Monday, but admits it's not packed down and probably going to be a slow go.

Has anyone checked it out?
I rode out of the Newman lot today. I can't comment on Orange and Yellow -- didn't get out that far. There are some preliminary trails created by walkers going out toward Lower Blue, but with my Fatboy on Bud & Lou's running low psi's, it was still a very tough slog. Unless you're Ironman (or Iron Lung? or Iron Balls?), I wouldn't recommend it (retreated after 200-300 yards). Access to White from the lot was a little better, but not much -- my friends and I turned around after ~100 yards because it was clear that it was going to be very difficult going.

The best riding exists on a loop including Lower and Middle Red. We made two laps and it was difficult, but getting better with each pass. You'll need good aerobic capacity -- for me it was like an interval training loop (but I'm not young, and I've always been more suited to anaerobic activities). The snow on Upper Red at the first intersection with Middle Red going clockwise was nearly untouched. You could be a good samaritan and begin breaking trail on Upper Red, but it would be tough going. A strong rider on a "regular" mountain bike can probably ride the Lower/Middle loop in it's current condition, however, one of my friends riding a 26er who's NOT a very strong rider abandoned after walking about 90% of the first lap. Middle Red is considerably harder than Lower Red. A fatbike will definitely make life easier. Have at it!

Thanks for the info! No fat bikebut it doesnt matter because I'm already out of commission for the day.

You're welcome. I returned early this morning to beat the predicted warm temps this afternoon. Did two more loops of Lower/Middle Red (Woody was out there, too), and concluded the ride by trying to get a start on opening up White. There's a narrow, sketchy path now from the Newman parking lot to just past the water crossing. The snow to either side of the path is still at least a foot deep in places. We're supposed to have real warm temperatures for the next week, so we'll have to see how much melting occurs, and how it will affect the rideability of the trails.

anyone try guard rail?, most likely a push up but top may be good
Logan looked horrible in a drive by, only a few walkers
