Clean Start

Cool shit alert.

I was able to work the pole vault pit at the US indoor Nationals this weekend out on Staten island.
Well work is a stretch. I volunteered so I could be on the floor for all the great athletes (olympians, and those attempting to qualify for worlds).
My job was putting the bar up! Note to self, wear a hat - the male pattern baldness really stands out from an overhead camera!

As you would expect, pole vault is very specialized. Ability to generate speed and strong upper body to launch yourself over a 19' high bar (winner did 18-10, and did not go higher since it was a qualifier for worlds - and winning qualifies) -

The multi-discipline (think decathlete, but there aren't that many indoor events) athletes are crazy - huge men (there is no women's PV indoor for multi) -

big money sponsorships on the line, yet all the athletes were very gracious to the umpiring crew and volunteers.

Oh, and the guy in the foreground at high jump is Vernon Turner. He won: 7'4"
The people putting up the bar had to stand on the mat!

Hey, I rode my bike outside yesterday!

The Strava machine says the last time was Oct 14th of last year.

While there is still swelling, which gets in the way of certain positions, the day after results are nearly pain free.
Well as pain free as you can be after 10 miles of Jungle.

I'm a happy chap. Going a bit smoother next week at CR and RV, Maybe getting some 6MR in the mix.

It will be a slow roll on the eBike for now.

Hope to see you out there - goal is wildcat Wednesday in August or so!

Hi Pat,,glad to know you have new hobby now,,and this is such a dream job(volunteer) for me as well,so happy for you!!☺️✌️

Well something isn't right. Went back to Dr with testing scheduled early June. Really uncomfortable, but will be riding the lead out for JPM corporate challenge in central park again this year. Might be on the ebike!

Oh, we can play the guess where I am game. There are clues!
Does the site strip the location info?

Google image search gets it right.
I don't think the lat/lon is kept in place

Put in 30 miles/3+ hours of saddle time today.
Weirdly enough, it hurts less than walking a few miles.
Without giving too much detail, cause ewww - things are not getting pinched.
Totally unexpected after the last month of FML.
Def wouldn't do bumps, but I'm heading back to Central Park tomorrow for a few more laps.
They repaved a bunch, so those old times are going to sink quickly (not for me this year, but maybe next)

Cheers.

Day 2 of the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge

Another 30+ miles on the bike. Took 10 to get the legs back from yesterday,
then 10 good miles, and then it turned into a mash to finish!

Cramped up good at 3am last night. Probably looking at the same tonight.
Will try the pickle juice thing before I go to bed - so I'll have to take tums at 3am!

Currently trying to change the mindset from "I can't" to "I can" -
It really means road right now. Maybe gravel.
It was nice to pedal. I miss it.

Nice effort there Pat, keep it up.

Turned my officiating job into a mini workout yesterday. Was working in the sector(landing area) for boys HS javelin at the group meet. These are the winners and qualifiers out of the sectionals, so better than average. Did as much running and jogging as I could. A little pain today, but tolerable. Got in 3 miles and kept the heart rate up fur a bit over an hour.

Well three weeks after my busy few days, which concluded very uncomfortably.
Went in to have my procedure done to relieve some pressure.

There was more urologist humor, mostly low hanging, so i'll leave it at that.

Hoping I can get back to being a bit more comfortable by Monday - i'm cleared for walking over the weekend.

🍆

Seriously?
