Diary of a Macman

Ride postponed to next monday

No one responded so I'm gonna bag the T.O.S ride until next Monday.

En lieu of skyline I hope to do a lunch at Hi Mtn (mon dec 14 12:20 pm). Post back or PM. Maybe check out the blue trails from market basket

MTB or X-C

I hope to head over to the Starbucks in Franklin Lakes (in the mall near Market Basket), Sunday Dec 20 9:30 AM. If conditions are not suitable for MTB, I'm up to x-c ski either near hi mtn, or possibly another location

Last year I attended a X-C Clinic at Weiss Ecology center
Here's an updated map of Norvin

If you're into interested, please post back or pm in the morning, ps monday i'm up for this type of deal again, but i hope to do it longer:popcorn:

md: weldon rd & yellow

was thinking about heading to tourne today, but kept going on 80 west, thinking deer park. some how i found mahlon dickerson using an old school printed nj state map [80 w, 15 n, weldon rd n]

1st lot i saw a red sox nation guy he said mtb is better lot 2, so i head there and start mtbing, then i meet him again on his x-c skis, i had my skiis in car but took the mtb, he said other side of rd is good for mtb so i check it out, 2 more skiiers, enuf already i figure go back and get the skiis, instead i take weldon back to 1st lot and take yellow trail back to safron lake, up on yellow i saw some snow shoe prints.

Eventually I got to x-c a bit today back in my town i put the skiis on for 2 small mini loops around soccer field

that pic was on way up to top of yellow i think before this bridge

i have the delorme now and was using the foreunner 405, last year i saw a guy in de, he had pn-40 and used and old school foreunner to mark coordinates. i don't think the foreunner 405 can do that. the pn-40 is sweet for off road, but for me its a steep learning curve

Thats for sure. I have a PN-20 and it took a while to figure things out. I used Topo USA so in-frequently that I always forget what I need to do. Still, it's a nice GPS unit.

Geocaching & the MTB

Do any of you folks Geocache? Do you use your MTB to Geocache?

Recently I purchased a DeLorme PN-40 for MTBing different places and maybe Geocache. Here's a ".loc" file that I loaded in Delorme Topo 8 and exported to my PN-40

Code:

<loc version="1.0" src="Groundspeak">
<waypoint>

Lodi Memorial Park by Team KwikSilver

	<coord lat="40.874983" lon="-74.0893"/>
	<type>Geocache</type>

</waypoint></loc>

I hope to string together a couple of Geocaches and take out the MTB. Maybe eventually plant some in accordance with the guidelines:popcorn:

Ok, the Macman personality is coming back. Let's cut back on the number of new threads you start every day basically saying the same thing. You were doing so well for so long. Let's cut this off before you go Poll Crazy.

For the Delorme USA Topo 8 the 'F1' is an amazing key especially with the topo 8. Most other programs the main functions are on the top. Topo 8 a lot of the stuff is on the bottom tabs (Draw -> import).

Here's my route I recorded on garmin forerunner 405 as downloaded from garmin connect. I tried to import another M.D. ride from every trail, but it wouldn't load I think it may have been recorded w/iPhone.

For me this is huge, as from here I can export projects back to the PN-40 in hopes to spend less time being lost in the woods:popcorn:

From Topo 8, I think my highest elevaation was 1251 feet, although the forerunner 405 w/its shoddy elevation bugs said 1300 ft. Be that as it may, M.D. boasts the highest elevation of Morris County in excess of 1300 feet🙂

hi mtn blue towards cannon ball

Took the blue trail from hi mtn then indian rd towards canon ball today

my foot was wet and almost frozen from a creek on the blue trail, and my rear d.r sram x.9 was frozen too and wouldn't budge, or i might have tried to go up canon ball, a left on 202 woulda been more direct then doty

ride started and ended in franklin lakes

These ruins are on Franklin Lakes Rd.

I never noticed them before but biked & ran past them dozens of times.

I'm looking to put together a good one hour loop for when franklin lakes tri season training starts, I can do a hi mtb loop before the regular tri brick at 7 am on saturdays:popcorn:

sun jan 10: 9: 30 am glen rock duck pond

Detail: This ride is two different loops. The first one is up Rea Ave to Oakland. The second loop is S.R.R. to Christmas Hill. Ride takes about 2.5 hours with no break. If the weather is questionable we'll just do one of the loops.

glen rock duck pond at 9:30 AM.

may just do saddle river loop or combine the two into one, by making a left on wyckoff instead of a right, then lake through ramsy, franklin tpke, onto airrmont rd and the back over to the saddle river loop

there's ice on the road, so no hammer fest just dust off the road bike and log a few miles:popcorn:

14 degrees this morning

Cold as heck this morning. 1st time on the road in months

this loop was in good condition except one spot on west saddle river rd, i think between state line and lake. a lot of water and icey slush coming off down off the hill. not good for a rd bike w/3 cars behind trying to pass.

nice to have a 2nd rd bike for these rides. wish I had a 2nd mtb:cry:

s.r.c.p.

it seems i can't get enough of this county park. i really wanted to run down canon ball today, but opted for the closer place
