My mom does, and she's a little wacky sometimes.

Nothing wacky in believing in aliens. Given the amount of solar systems just in the Milky Way galaxy and given that there are billions of other galaxies that contain billions of solar systems and even more billions of potential planets, the likelihood that there is other life out there is very probable. The issue is can we actually confirm it? Other solar systems are extremely far away and may have significantly more (or less) advanced technology than us.

If you can wrap your head around the possibility of an infinite universe, it's basically impossible that we are alone. It would also be improbable that their 'life" would even be recognizable to us.
I'm also a full believer in simulation theory. Weather it's my simulation or our simulation i'm unsure of. But I hope you are real Capies.

as said above, given the unimaginable size of the universe it is basically impossible that there is not other intelligent life out there. basically mathematically impossible for there not to be. IMHO, that isn't really a question.

the real question is (AGAIN considering the unimaginable size of the universe - e.g., multiple million/billion light years between galaxies, etc) have any of them discovered the ability to actually get to us.

but, then, considering the age of the universe, it is possible that there is intelligent life that is MILLIONS, if not BILLIONS, of years more advanced than us technologically. just think of how much more technologically advanced we are in the last 100 years, so just imagine how much more technologically advanced the human race would be in 1 MILLION years!!!!! (granted, we will never get there before destroying ourselves/ each other....but that is another topic entirely)

the infinite universe is a nice background to - can't just be us. something else out there has to be alive -

the question then becomes are they at a point where communications makes sense. we are a blip on the universal timeline (nearly infinite from our POV) - alignment, and proximity are unlikely.

man, these mushrooms are good. who wants some tea?

Didn't see that movie...

I have several theories but the mushrooms wore off a few hours ago and I'm having a hard time gathering my thoughts at the moment...

yes i think aliens exist.

knew a girl in high school who swears she was abducted. dat i dunno bout.

My mom says that shit too.

I wrote an album based on her story that became something completely different about aliens who want to just go surfing. I think that makes more sense. If anything is gonna come down here, it's gonna be to surf.

You listen to JRE too right? This was the first thing I thought of.

Also in a (somewhat recent) podcast, I think with Duncan Trussel, someone mentioned the idea that if aliens had the ability to contact us they probably wouldn't want to. The analogy was that we as humans do not waste our time talking to an ant hill. Interesting stuff!

But what about making contact with us just to fuck with us for fun. When I was a young boy, I used to mess with ant hills all the time out of boredom.

What if we were like, the Universe's punch line?

I'm an Edward O Wilson disciple.

Sure we do. - well ok, one of us does, just in case they want to say something.

On E.O.Wilson, if you want to explore how religion and genetics might be co-mingled, read Consilience.

Tea time is around 3:30. Just saying.

That's a clear violation of the word "paradox". I bet if Fermi were alive today he'd put something like "man I just had this idea that will blow your mind" on Facebook. What that Wikipedia page amounts to is, "I don't see any."

Incidentally, I find that peeling a banana backwards hardly qualifies as a life hack that will blow anyone's mind.

I'm pretty confident there's life somewhere else. Maybe they evolved to the stage of playing ping pong and they just get stoned and play ping pong all day, every day. Why is it a foregone conclusion that every civilization wants to a) talk to anyone else and b) colonize anything? Maybe everyone else wants to just get stoned. And play ping pong.

yeah
I like the theory that as we evolve technologically, we actually stop exploring outward and just concentrate on making virtual reality a reality. why actually go out and see what's on Jupiter's moon when we can figure out what's on it from here, and create a virtual reality experience of the whole mission. If real enough, it's just as rewarding, and way safer. The thrill won't be there until you invoke the machine to cause you to forget that you exist outside the simulation.
