Don't Call it a Comeback

One thing I've neglected to post, is that our 10 year old boxer, Luca, died last week when we were in PR. He was in our trusted kennel, where he is usually two times a year.

He was a great dog. Great with the kids, loyal, and friendly to everyone except when he'd hear hte doorbell.

Apparently he just went to sleep and didn't wake up. 🙁

We're looking for another boxer pup right now, and will likely go with the one on the right

The PR pics, if anyone is interested are in this link. This was a really good holiday, and I recommend PR to anyone. Offseason, while the weather is kind of like here in NJ, is the best from a value perspective. And best of all you get all venues and entertainment without waiting, no crowds at all.

It rained some, but less than in NJ 😉

We were there from 8/12 to 8/22, and I had a chance to fully recover and rebuild my knee to where it's better than "new". It was nice to combine road riding with a family vacation. I'd get up at 5:30am and be back by breakfast; and I don't sleep past that anyways. So no issues.

Absolutely awesome pics. I was just going to click a few here and there but I got drawn in and looked at a ton. I love the colors of many non-US locations. Here, if somneone paints a house yellow & orange the neighbors petition to have it either painted or bulldozed. I love this pic, this is just great:

Look forward to riding together again one of these days.

Thanks Norm. I think I'm ready for you now, where I'll hold you up just a little instead of a lot!

I have so many favorites from this trip. Probably the pics of the locals are really interesting -

Losing a 4 legged family member is always rough. Sorry to hear man. Beautiful pictures btw! I went browsing through. Which camera did you take with you?

Hey thanks man. I used the Canon 1D Mark II for most, and the Canon D10 for the 'action' stuff like cycling, beach, scuba.

Lenses were 70-200 2.8IS, a Russian 16mm fish-eye, a 17-40L 4.0, and 24-70L 2.8. Sometimes I used fill flash.

Most of the work was actually in post-processing. Btw, I've downloaded a trial version of Lightroom, so far I'm not blown away but I haven't learned how to really use it.

Very nice work really! I agree light room is definitely not the end all be all, but I found that it really helped me out with my NYC stuff. I've still got to get it all uploaded to somewhere decent instead of facebook where it gets distorted. I'll send you the link when I get done with it for your critique.

Sorry about your dog.
That guy looks like Danny Devito 😉

Thanks man

The dude was much bigger than Danny lol

I could've used some spanish help. On one of the really steep descents, I finally ran into another rider going up the mountain, but he was on a mtb, an s-works epic no less. I slammed on the breaks and I'm all habla anglais, he says no, I say ok, still, this is fucking STEEP! He says something like pabaiso or penoso, not sure what. I wish I took a picture of him.

Just did 4850 feet of climbing in 54 miles with Norm. Fortunately for me, he was not 100%. Feel better man.

I took some pretty bad pictures in some terrific scenery. One reason is because we didn't really stop for anything except to refuel. The other reason is that I'm burned out on taking pictures, so I'm not that into it for a while.

We finished up in the dark, but we had ample lights.

Here are a couple decent pics, including a rescue by way of B&W.

Good ride! I hear ya on the pictures. They seem to have lost their steam a bit. So mostly they just show off who we've been riding with.

I actually just took one of my thermometer. 48 degrees!

That sucks, that was one of the highlights if I ever came over. He would slobber all over me and run to the car if you let him. Sorry to hear that.

For a second I thought that was your body temp since we're on health topic. Whew.

Yeah. We are comforted by that he went without suffering but it blows in any case. New boxer puppy should be home in a month or so.

We need to go riding. I can possibly come out to you to Hartshorne since I've never been one of these days.

I like the B &W it looks like snow on the foliage...

Totally unrelated, I said when I needed tires again on the RB I would try the stans road kit. I picked up a piece of glass this morning on a fairly new good tire and f'd it. How are you liking the stans for the road and was it fairly easy or any different from the off road stuff that I am familiar with?

Pic - that one was almost completely dark. simple trick to turn crap into "art". add a whole bunch of exposure and then contrast, this makes a dark pic grainy, and then convert to B&W. voila.

[On that note, Shout out to Brandon - LIghtroom is the shit, it's awesome, now that I got the inner workings worked out. Best things since tubeless tires on a road fatbike]

On that note, Rob, the tubeless on road is really good. I corner more confidently, it feels smoother as psi is lower, and flats not an issue any more (i used to run too low pressure on tubed and get pinch flats).

The setup is either hard or easy., If you done MTB tubeless, you know the tricks. Just soap the shit out of the bead, and may need touse compressor first time around, maybe not.

I didn't have any issues helped by since my rims are Ksyriums which don't require taping. However, I was in Halter's when J was having some issues mounting ona shimano wheelset, I don't know the resolutuion. IN any case, its all worth it.
