Fueling Fred's fire!!

Well first I would have to catch him to do that...

The video is a bit obnoxious I will not lie. But its a youtube video. Take it for what it is. Its the B's. We all got a pair of socks at the end of the day and went home. Many ppl dont know who this guy even is and I didnt realize who he was until this weekend.

He has made some big moves in one year. I watched this guy ride away from me now on two occasions, first at the battenkill and this past sunday.

Should he be riding in our group, no. But its his second cross race and he has to deal with the USA Cycling upgrade stuff.

Damn! He said the win was easy. :getsome:

Nice video coverage of the ground as he walked around. Maybe I should send my resume to them.

He also said he is going to be in Massachusetts next weekend. Fred, you will have to leave your mark at the Fair Hill race.

The racer seems humble and nice. He's just doing his thing. But this "reporter" is truly obnoxious, rude, and shows horrible sportsmanship. Douchebaggery to say the least.

I know he's got to deal with USAC but if he's a Cat1 roadie he should be a cat 1 CX in the elite field with the USAC CX conversion. Sandbagger and he know's it.

Agree with what Fred said. Take it for what it is. I don't really have a problem with it. The "easy" comment isn't exactly humble but this isn't the Dan Patrick Show. He probably figured 9 people would see that, 3 of him related to him.

Having said that, I hope Fred rips his balls off next time they race together.

But even more practically speaking, he certainly could get the cx upgrade to cat 3, which is all he needs to register for the 1/2/3 race. I'd give him a pass since his first cx race was the day before, and he didn't win. But now he won, should get the upgrade, and move up.

I thought a racer needed a UCI license to race non-master elite at the mac series. If that be the case, this guy would still have to race B,s, no? CX, so simple, yet so many silly rules. Why can't we all just ride?

I was sitting on the ground at the finish where these guys were filming this 5 feet from me.

The dude didn't even look like he was working. I was both envious of he fitness and disgusted by it. He will move up for sure. He knows it.

This is the guy filming btw:

i was wondering if that was you sitting against the tree.

the only thing the guy said that annoyed me was that it was "easy" but to norm's point, he probably didn't expect that 1/2 of mtbnj.com would see it.

From the bikereg page:

Licensing Requirements:
UCI Races at 2:30 and 3:30: The Elite Men, Elite Women, *Master Women 35+, *U23 Men and *U23 Women must have a current UCI license.

Assuming I can read correctly, you're correct. He was where USAC said he should be. He could have raced in the C class. Credit him for starting with the Bs and not the Cs like most people do.

Where did this guy come from to go from Cat 5 to Cat 1 road in one season.
One good guess would be tri-land.

I've witnessed a few such meteoric rises in my time as a road racer, and that's often the way it goes. That, and being mega-blessed with natural athleticism, of course.🙄

Mountain bike world maybe:

Some interesting discussion here. Looks like this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened to him:
http://nyvelocity.com/content/race-results/2010/hangover-816

Read from the bottom up. At the end, he actually posts. I'll give him credit for taking it in stride, and deleting what was apparently a blog post (his blog here) with a big target on it.

But it appears that being humble isn't a strong point, which isn't going to win him any friends.

How long before he finds this?

he just seems like a nice guy thats doing his thing and not having a clue, just likes to ride and race. Thats all.

I do agree that this guy is pretty remarkable. Able to speak coherently after a race like that.

Yea who is this Smith... The dbag reporter who is also a horrible cameraman makes this guy sound like Mark Weir. He said he raced mtbs...?

It was his first weekend of racing CX. I think he registered in the correct class.

If it were up to NJ public opinion, everyone would have to upgrade as soon as you became even remotely competitive. Then we would all be racing in elite and crying that it wasn't fun.

Looks like he favors the ultradistance stuff.

Got to give him credit for upgrading as fast as he did in road all the way up until he was pack fodder at GMT. I mean just the USAC process was probably staggering.

So I don't think there is anything one can hold over him for racing his 2nd CX race in Bs.

10 minutes at the DH40, thats insane.

What's more insane - is that I don't ever want to cross Norm, you're like a super stalker :hmmm:
