Global Fat Bike Day 12/6

Steve Vai

Endurance Guy: Tolerates most of us.
Anyone interested in getting a group together in honor of Global Fat Bike Day?

We could do something central like Hartshorne/Huber/Sandy Hook. Given how warm it will be this week I'm not sure many of the other trail networks will be useable.

We were planning something on the Lackawanna but suspect any snow on it is likely now turned to black mush by the local ATVers, so we may be headed up north, but if we don't I'm game for your plan.

Not looking good for the weekend. Rainy Friday >>Saturday. Had it been nicer, I would've proposed a Fat ride at Kitattiny Park up in Andover, NJ for the Northern NJ crowd...whoever they may be!

I'm the proud new owner of a 2015 Motobecane Night Train Bullet thru Bikesdirect.com. I've already gotten a few rides in, one of which was on sloppy snow and mud. What a fun toy that is.

I'd love to find a couple of likeminded local NNJ/Morris County fatbikers to ride with now and then. I have my regular riding buddies, but none of them have fatbikes (yet).

Eddie - off the top of my head I can tell you that icebiker, extremedave, pampa, smokey, bladsport, and I all have fat bikes and are from Morris Cty/NNJ.

Rob

Cool. Hopefully over time I'll ride with a few of you. Don't be surprised if I post a few rides myself, or just jump aboard any other local fatrides I come across. Would be nice to find a couple of fatbikers who I can actually keep up with! LOL. (52yo Clydesdale here).

Sandy Hook tomorrow (Sunday)

Given all the rain, the trails are going to be soggy. I'm planning to ride Sandy Hook tomorrow (DAGFBD) if anyone's game. Thinking 10ish at the first lot after the toll booths. Post up if you plan to join or if you prefer a different time.

To celebrate Global Fat Bike day, I spent 4 hours in traffic (one way) to take my son to his first staging of "The Bronx Opera's" presentation of "Arthur Herring". Eric is playing the role of "Harry", the only child part in the opera. Technically, he's now a professional.

Well, modern opera is practically the same thing as flying down single track.....Cuz, the FAT lady IS singing!!!!

On a positive note, these guys are amazing!

Great day at the Hook. Beastly headwind on the way north, whitecaps everywhere, but made for a breeze on the way back.

Manhattan in the distance, Verrazano towards the left (hard to see).

I delayed my GFBD ride a day to today at Kittatinny State park. It was sunny and a brisk 45 degrees. A couple of wind gusts here and there. Trails mostly dry, with a few squishy muddy spots here and there. Did about 8 miles with my buddy Joe. Slowly but surely becoming more confident with my new fatbike, but this bike makes me work hard for my miles. (I'm OK with this, it's a gym membership on wheels)

New gear: Lake MXZ303 shoes. My feet were toasty warm. What a significant improvement over summer mt biking shoes with neoprene covers. Also had a new Underarmor style skull cap under the helmet, which was probably at it's limit at this temp. Purchased from performancebike.com
