If you had to get rid of all your bikes except one...

What bike are you keeping and why...?..

For me the Chameleon and Super 6 are gone and would 100% have to keep my Surly Straggler. I have a ton of miles on this jawn and it was at one point my only bike so it has previous experience. I like being able to ride the road then cut thru a park or down some trails on this bike.

I have visions of putting the steel fork back on & turn it into a flat bar SS coffee bike and riding off into the sunset 🌇 or sunrise 🌅 or whatever.

hmmm, tough one....I'll preface this by saying...these opinions are based on my level of talent (or lack there of)

Start off with the DJ/Road bike....we'll toss those in the fireplace as being too one dimensional..

My scalpel works just fine as a road bike/gravel bike.....BUT...riding the scalpel on rock rollers and at creek kinda sucks (I have done both, I don't recommend)...and you certainly have to be careful how fast you go downhill with it.

My tallboy...not terrible on the road, makes an ok platform for pedaling (but I would hate to have to do an XC race on it) really good in the tech, little sketchy on steep things and I don't enjoy jumping it very much.

Bronson....ok, this bike sucks on the road, sitting and pedaling it....not so great....but it turns like an F1 car, super fun to do jumps with (even small me sized ones), really good going down hill and is actually good in the tech as well.

Firebird....actually pedals pretty well for a 35lb bike, good in the tech, turns awesome, smashes downhills like a bulldozer and I can jump it better than any of my other bikes...and so long as I stay out of its way, it seems to get me down any rock roller.

I think I would have to go with the firebird....its big and heavy, but it pedals well enough that I can keep up on a group ride with it...I have fun riding it most anywhere...and its capable far beyond what I have the skills for.

End of the day...what can I go fastest on downhill?....the Firebird, so it wins...and its also the most orange and blue bike I own

That said...F having 1 bike.....have all the bikes.

first to go in this order:
Cross bike (no crying over this one)
REI citi bike (nice to have but it's the i-don't-care-if-it's-stolen bike)
hard tail (tears start shedding)

Now... the decision:
5010 or the Ripmo -- Major tears being shed over losing one of these.

I guess the correct answer is keep the Ripmo since it's burlier and better all around for Pisgah but not a disadvantage for Dupont... plus it handled rock creek better than i expect the 5010 would have... and, if i go with Utah logic, it's the orange and blue bike for #teammtbnj

Trek Fuel EX - Has been my back up bike for 3 years, basic Shimano drivetrain and XTR brakes, hate the Continental tires on it now - That can go.

My new Tallboy - Too new to make any decisions yet, but it's a fun ride, pedals great and handles tech really well. - It's staying for a while.

The Switchblade - Definitely my favorite bike, it does everything really well and always brings a smile to my face. Loving the new WTB tires on it too, but it is in need of a tare down and rebuild which will be my winter project. - Switchblade wins !!!!

Current options:

Cellini Hobootleg- Steel Touring bike. It's a decent commuter but it's 3x9, weighs 30 lbs and can't take much over 36cc tires. It's gone.

Ibis HD6- Yeah, this isn't staying. Not nearly enough use in this area year round. I don't enjoy pedaling this bike enough to keep.

Santa Cruz 5010- Currently my daily driver. Tough to want to keep this, the mullet isn't exactly the quickest bike. The most fun though.

Santa Cruz Blur TR- Would have to be the pick. Swapping tires between big road tires could make it a fun road bike/gravel bike and going burly-ish on MTB tires can make it plenty capable for regular trail riding.

One bike?!?!? Um, I’m disinclined to acquiesce to your request.

(Means no)

Closest I’ll entertain is 2. I’d give up my Synapse (less the wheelset) and use the Lynskey Gravel bike for all drop bar related activities.

Mountain…. Crap, that’s tough. I love all of them and I’ve already distilled it down to a handful. The Nomad is the only one it’s hard to justify keeping. I ride the 5010 the most and the Farley is basically a get out of jail free card…. Sooo. Then again, the Binary Maniak is fun almost anywhere. Damn, I don’t like this game…. I guess it would have to be my Domahidy (SingleSpeed). I just can’t imagine doing without it.
