Had the early shift at work, after 2 days off waking up a 4:30am wasn't too bad. Made it into work, got the crew going then changed cups. The cup is the hole the golfers putt into. Finished up and got home to take J to his soccer game at Randall's Island NY. We played here last week and it is quite a remarkable complex for such a metropolitan area. Here is what this place is all about.
Randall's Island Sports Foundation (RISF) was founded in 1992 as a public-private partnership to work on behalf of Randall's Island Park. The Foundation, in conjunction with City leadership, works to develop sports and recreational facilities, restore its natural environment, reclaim and maintain parkland, and sponsor programs for children.
66 fields will be available following redevelopment and will accommodate a greater variety of sports, including football, lacrosse, field hockey, and rugby amongst the sports already played at the Park, soccer, baseball and softball.
Well we ended up tying the #8 U14 ranked team in NY, not bad considering we're ranked 19th in NJ. When you look at the picture kids aged 13 can be 6'2" and shaving or they can be like J, 4'11" and still very much a child. I'm not gonna point J out you should know where he is by now...next to Pele.
Sunday
Me, Kirt and Chris26er...Utah was washing his johnson.
Hey did you here there was a lot of mud at wawa! Yeah this place was fudged up, but everyone who showed up knew it would be. Also it was no surprise when they took the new stuff out of the race course, that stuff was wet back in May and June when we didn't have rain.
This was the last H2H race. I kinda showed up looking for affirmation that I had gotten faster since the beginning of the year. It was tough to find that proof since a lot of the guys who did this race in May didn't show up for this yesterday. I can't count beating Rob Hayes as validation since he was illin while he raced, he had the same cold I did early in the week(upper respiratory feel like shit cold).
It was a day of small victories for me. My last lap I was really into a groove where time goes by so fast and I feel no pain. Its like those Rocky movies where he gets the shit beat out of him the whole fight then in the last round he steps up and does his thing. I did my thing and fought off guys I was battling with in the previous lap by blowing past them in the technical stuff and keeping the hammer down through the peanut butter fire roads.
The previous lap Jarred and Alex? in the 30-39's blew past me on the fire road, I was going to be sure they didn't do this again after I got out of the single track before them. In the last climb before the descent down the fire road to the finish line I heard one of them behind me scream
your an animal. I thought to myself Oh Shit there on my heels...then I thought he should have stayed quite and sniped me, thanks for the tip off.
With these guys on my heels I gave it everything I had and was hauling down the fire road when my front tire went out from under me and I landed on my left quad and elbow. My main concern was to get back on the bike and keep going before I got caught. I hopped back on and grinded a big gear to carry speed to the finish. With 50yds to go I looked back and Alex was right behind me. It was a sprint finish with me holding my place. Ya!
My left quad and elbow are sore as hell but nothing serious. My shifter got screwed up after the 1st lap so that's in the shop. I ended up 9/17, close enough to midpack. Can someone please tell me I got faster since the beginning of the season to make me feel better?
Here is one guy that needs no one to validate that he got faster this year. Segundo got 3rd place in his debut Cat 1 SS class. He was also able to encourage his podium mates to flash the black panther salute, and that's pretty impressive since Segundo prolly has no idea wtf I'm talking about.
