IGVENTURE

I remember another famous MTBNJ moment where someone wearing the O&B did not ride his bike up a hill. Iggy joins an elite group...

Iggy = Scrappy. Nice ride, especially not having trained formally all
winter. I also find XC skiing a welcome change during the winter.

Speedplay road cleats will jam up if you whisper the word "mud".

Q: In retrospect would you have fared better if you had stopped to clear your cleat? Downside is you have to work like hell to bridge back to the group and may lose the group for good. Upside is more power to the pedals during a long hilly race.

If only there was some sort of photographic evidence of this milestone event.

This is my recreation of Ol'Rob from last fall when me, lance & capers did the preview Bkill ride.

My dismount at Juniper Swamp Rd. this year was more like a scramble around carnage and running to catch the lead group. My face did not have the classic agony of defeat look. I felt like I was in a football game running my bike to avoid tackles from the herd. Looking at this pic from last October the roads looked nothing like this on Saturday. The top of Juniper Swamp climb was like quick sand, if you didn't pick a good line and keep momentum it was easy to go over...which a lot of guys did. But hey, even if I made the first climb I'm sure I would have gotten dropped on Joe Bean...I was not ready for climbing with the leaders.

Yeah EO, I probably should have tried to clean my cleat but I kept thinking it would clear by banging it on the pedal and pressing down...thats how I got my right one back in. After I realized this wasn't happening I was in a strong chase group and didn't want to loose these guys. SPD's and mtb shoes would have been a good choice, I think Ben had suggested this before the race.

Dusty, you and evin should enter as a team. as incentive, you guys will be granted back stage passes and access to the vip tent if you sign up.

I was going to go out and ride but its raining. Lately a lot of my rides are for fun, hop on my mtb and cruise Wangchung. JRA in the rain is pointless because riding in the rain sucks.

After 8 races this year I am chilling and not doing any real training, the idea of hoping on the road bike to do intervals has no appeal to me right now. The Bearscat 50 was my motivation to train, that race is over. I was happy with my result, 9th out of 39. But I think I could have done better if I pushed myself more on the 1st lap, my split times where only 3 minutes apart.

Why does Flickr add these tags to pics, it used to be easier to copy the URL and paste...wtf. I took this picture this morning. Sunshine is nice but when you see it everyday an overcast day can be a welcome sight as well.

When July comes I feel the burnout from working outdoors in the heat and waking up at 4 am 6 days a week. This time of year I start to feel drained and my energy to crush rides is not there or I should say not there consistently. I remember I crashed at KVSP last year in mid July trying to push what I didn't have. Also I can recall when I broke my collar bone in a crit 9 years ago, the month was July:hmmm:

So learning from my past I'm going to enjoy the summer, JRA, drink beer on my patio and listen to music. Courtney Barnett, Ben Harper, Pink Floyd, Roseanne Cash, the Replacements. Based on this list who else would you recomment? Also I humped everyone of those stone pavers and did the landscaping in my backyard. This was in between cycling years, it did help me to htfu.

Vive le Maillot Jaune!
