Anyone with real life experience with a Salsa Notch? Didn't know they existed. I still can't figure out what's full power or not...

I think 85Nm of torque or better is full power. Although with manufacturers trying to catch up to DJI the new "full power" may go up. Maybe there will be a new power class (full+?) for >100Nm. 60 - 65Nm is mid power and <50Nm is low.... according to me. Others may differ in opinion. I based all this on the fact that my Orbea Rise with 65Nm torque max is labeled a mid power ebike and my current Moterra with 85Nm motor is full power.

I am a salsa dealer and I would never stock this bike. I have ridden it.

The Salsa product manager came to visit me and he as much as admitted to me that this bike was a disaster. (that's why the alloy ones are 40% off a year into their existence) It is however a good deal and Salsa has all sizes in stock if you want one.

It is only useful w/ a 250 wh range extender.. and then it gets even heavier & you have no bottle cage.

A CX drive unit should never be paired with a 500wh IMO. Also a Deore drivetrain should last about a month on a 85nm bike. The push for 100nm on ebikes is only going to crush the shimano market share on ebike as they can't seem to get any bike brands to spec Link Glide.

Shimano went out of their way to build a e-bike specific drivetrain and yet I don't think i've ever seen a group on a bike out of the box.

@mattybfat is proof that it works and holds up.

The carbon version is interesting as it has the infrequently used Vivid air / Zeb combo which is fantastic. But they lost me on the 625wh battery.. I recently killed 2 E-bikes in an afternoon in spain one had a 800wh battery on a CX and the second had a 400wh on a sx. I am riding a lot of ebikes as the brands keep sending me to ride them.

I do think 600 wh has a place. It is not however on a group ride where everyone else has a 750wh or more.

You are right. 85NM was considered full power until DJI came in a crashed the party w 100nm. What very few people are saying is that 85nm was chosen as the top end power metric as beyond that, drivetrain wear happens very quickly. Especially under inexperienced ebike users. 100nm sounds great on paper.. until you kill a drivetrain in a month.

Thoughts on the new Santa Cruz Bullit with CX motor and 600W battery?
SC is gonna win/lose on this concept.
I'm in the boat of bigger battery, 600 on a big bike just doesn't make sense but I could be wrong. Group rides with big battery folks is gonna create range anxiety 🤣

Guess it depends on terrain. I can ride Allmauchy/Stephens/DP and run out in 2-3 hours but if I shuttle at Trexler I can go much longer. Don't see this bike working in this area...

I believe that's why you get the 250WH range extender. Big battery when you need it, smaller battery when you don't. At least that seems to be SC's thought process.

Then they should include the extender imo.
Not in love with concept, bike looks good though.

Would love to see how the Bullit compares with new Shuttle LT iteration. SC looks a little slacker and longer chain stay. New Forbidden ebike looks cools with DJI motor. I rode the older Dreadnought and was a fun bike

No disagreement there. Especially since I'm sure adding the extender will increase the weight past the "sub-50 lbs." target SC is touting...

Interested to see what DJI could do if they put their minds to a lower power/weight motor...

It’s my personal opinion is that for the price the heckler and bullet should come with the range extender . A 600wh battery is cheaper than a 800wh battery. Santa Cruz is charging top dollar for a bike that is locked into a small battery. To make matters worse if you decide to run a range extender the mounting point is way up the down tube. Bikes like the Levo can mount the range extender up against the bb in the frame while the “rocker” bikes have a shock in that location. This means the front of the bike is going to feel very heavy with the range extender sitting so far up on the down tube.

This
Why would you not slam the mount for extender, big swing and miss especially dedicating to a small battery. My wild at least can slam the powermore low but I have 750wh and rarely have i needed more.

Lots of good info here, thanks for taking the time to respond

I don't get it at all. I am a fan of the bike, but the move to run a 600wh, especially with a pending firmware update to 100nm makes the range here pretty limited.

Personally, if I am going to ride my ebike, my goal is to return to the car with 1% battery left. Or 0% in sight of the car.

Recently I spent a few days in spain on this Mondraker Crafty

Each time I rode it, i returned to the Mondraker factory with a dead battery. This bike has a 800wh battery. IMO this is the ticket.

Locally, id love to do a Mooch, DP , stephens look with a 800wh and a 250wh powermore extender.

Text me anytime at the number below. I have taken the deep dive on e bikes and I have ridden as many as I can.

Just a quick note here on DJI.. There are moves happening to outlaw their sale in a few states as they go over 100nm when you hit the boost button. They are also going to hit the highest possible tariff rates known to man. Watch this unfold carefully.
