Jungle Habitat Conditions

update?

Anyone been to JH recently. ..want to ride tomorrow early AM before noon time storms arrive.....obviously I will "skunk by-pass" wet areas on warthog and keep to higher ground...is this do-able with all the recent rainfall?

good question Daily...how are conditions? only been there once and looking to head up tomorrow if I can maybe..

thanks!

I'm going to start from the kiosk at 8am. Upper shute to warthog...skunk bypass and then some of the upper trails like rhino...no more than 2 hours...have to be out by 10am....slow pace..1st time on "real" rocks this year and I'm trying to get back into shape. Most of the upper trails drain really well...so it should be okay!

Conditions....

Left Lot around 8am"ish," there were four cars including mine at the kiosk. Rode upper Animal Chute (passed a small group of 3 riders going opposite direction) to Warthog. Chute had some wet spots, but not too bad. Almost missed Skunk bypass....(sharpie markings are almost not existent on most of the small yellow signs)...glad I didn't miss it, as upper warthog had some very wet areas even beyond the bypass. Skunk didn't look as though it has seen much action lately, which means people are probably destroying the wet areas on middle Warthog😕 Rode otterslide up passed entrance/exit to Rhino. stayed on otterslide the whole way up (passed another small group of four riders on Otter) where you pick up yellow markings (don't remember trail name..fish??) rocks and switchbacks down ridge, usual wet areas at the bottom before paved path. Lower Chute was basically a stream on the lower sections. Back at car around 9:30ish to very full lot at kiosk.

Basically tread lightly and stay off middle Warthog via the skunk bypass that crosses parking lots.....😉

Jungle Conditions

JH is holding up well, even with all the recent rainstorms. Started from Kiosk around 12:20. Rode up Upper Animal Chute, then counter-clockwise to Warthog. Was able to ride all of Warthog as it is drying out very well with the assistance of all the awesome rock-armoring work that has been done on that trail. Met up with Doug (who was riding a Cannondale f/s with a lefty). We rode up Otter, passed Rhino, so he could show me the entrance to Boon.

My 1st ride on boon, and I have to say it was amazing! Such a well built trail! Fun and challenging! Thought I was going to puke by the time we made it to the top!

Thanks again to Doug for the tour of Boon!

thanks for the report!

I'm going to try to make it tomorrow ... only been there once so i'll try study the map on here online. I remember the entrance and through the parking lot which way to go and that's it. time to explore. Any tips from anyone?!? 🙂

Or might go to Ringwood... don't know yet... only been there once too. arg.

Got some new goodie for the knolly to try out.. 🙂

cheers!

Did a big loop today of basically everything and other than Chute, everything was perfect. Chute was slightly greasy but not bad. Rode Dump Truck and Boulderdash and both seem complete and rode awesome. Props to the trail crew.

Be Alert!! I ran onto a momma bear with three cubs on Warthog today. The cubs are getting big and momma is still being very protective. She was not aggressive, but definitely let it be known we were not to approach her group.

I rode JH early morning on the 13th. It had been a couple days since rain and then it got cold over night, so things had crunched up nice for my ride. I was out of the woods before it broke the freezing mark. It was apparent that some folks had ridden on Sunday when things were mushy. This was especially noticeable on Warthog. Up top things were sweet as it drained well and first. I'm sure things are going to turn to mush again with today's rain. Hopefully, we'll freeze up for the weekend.

Would like to ride the trails this weekend but not sure how much snow fell up north. Anyone been out?

I'm in greenwood lake and there's around an inch or so. Stewart should be clear if you want to take the trip.

I was at jungle today hiking for a few hours trails had 2 to 3 inches of fluffy powder , it seemed ridable to me , didn't see any tire marks other then some moto and quads

I went out and gave it a shot today. It was really tough going. There is still a few inches of snow and no previous bike tracks in the snow. There were several sets of footprints going out Animal Shute and back. Then there was just 1 set of footprints out on Warthog. It was real slow, with the occasional frost heave and even small climbs became "hike-a-bike".

Out on Warthog (the area that you take if you don't take Skunk), there are 4x4 tracks that ripped across the trail and went up to the lot. I decided to follow them. They go out around the end of the runway and then connect to a whole system of quad trails out there. It was easier riding the packed down quad trails.

I came back and rode a little more on Warthog and then cut across the lot. I at least got a 2nd set of lines down on some of Warthog and Animal Shute. It simply needs to be ridden. So, get on out and suffer a little so we can pack that sucker down!

With the amount of rain and melt we've had up here over the weekend, added to the typically damp nature of the park, I doubt it. I'll give you more definite info if I walk through in the week.
