Just as you don’t get it, i don’t get how it bothers anybody. Guy/girl puts towel around waist and takes off wet stuff, puts on dry stuff. Nobody sees anything, I’m not advocating walking around naked in the lot. it takes all of 25 seconds. But, I guess it is a big deal to some people. Just not me.

I think that's exactly the point. Do middle school parents want their parking lot to be a steamy half nude changing room for mtbers? Probably not. Obviously it wouldn't bother me much, but I get it. And it's not even exactly the point about that specific case. It's the general attitude "....well that doesn't bother me" while we're fighting for trail use. It all adds up. Don't give people ammo.
I guess we will just completely disagree on this, but come on, I have a kid at middle school in Morristown, I am not talking about when school is in session. I wouldn't even park there if the school was open. I am talking about a Saturday, when there are no students there.
I am not talking about some Caligula orgy, wow.
Also, it should be duly noted that I have now argued with several complete strangers on the internet, what the fuck is my problem

I hear you.... doesn't really bother me if other people do it, but it's the people who live in the neighborhood, or otherwise use these public facilities that might not appreciate it. Also, in a NJ state park it is a violation. Funny thing, i was checking morris county parks and found it's illegal to spit... didn't say anything about snot rockets though 😉

I’m about fed up with this. I love Kingdom Trails (ask my friends, I really really do), but I’m pretty sure the real estate up in the middle of nowhere Vermont would be worth only the mineral rights without the tourist dollars. I’m respectful and thankful but I’m not getting on my knees to beg the people to let me ride there. Have you seen the latest Communication about who is currently “allowed” to ride KT? It’s aggravating, we are riding bikes out-f’kin-side. Maybe the “don’t Jersey Vermont” slogan from the turn of the century still pisses me off. Close your precious trails to me, I’ll go to Pennsylvania or Delaware or North Carolina or anywhere. A rental in Burke is not cheap by any means. The rental property owners should be playing a part as riding advocates and I’m sure a bunch of them are the landowners we are required to praise. Suck it.

if you use a towel to change, it’s very easy to be discreet about it. If there are Little kids or young people, go on the other side of your car, open the doors to shield yourself, or do it in your car. I’ve changed after every ride and I’m always aware of who is there to make sure there is no awkward sighting.
Now, if you’re in your car watching me, and I don’t see you, that’s on you you perv.

The whole changing thing is going off the tracks. School is closed and has been for months. So let's be clear there are no school kids around. Second, that lot is pretty much full when school is in and I doubt that parking there is a good idea let alone changing. I would like to think that people have a modicum of sense to not abuse a convenient parking location; i.e. don't park there when school is in, let alone change and possibly risk becoming a level 1 sex offender. Any school or school system has the explicit right to limit the use of property; it is not freely accessible public property.

There's a serious inability here to see the forest through the trees. Changing in and of itself is not bad, but if some of the neighbors there get it into their heads that they're tired of the traffic, noise, whatever, its one more thing to add to the whole. That's the point I'm trying to make here, we take things for granted. Yes, its a nice convenient parking spot that always has space, and us cheap fucks with $5k bikes also get to avoid the $7 vig to park at the official lots. Yes, school is also out, but during normal times the locals drive there kids to use the soccer fields on the weekends. Also, since covid, the genie seems to be out of the lamp, the secret is out, and more people are parking there, and this increases visibility and risk. I doubt we'll see that trend reverse since the masses have also found the convenient $7 coupon. Doesn't it make sense to be just a little more cautious, put your individual justifications aside to see the bigger picture? All it takes is a couple of complaints from the local tax payers to shut things down, its that easy.
Just for the record: changing out of any clothes with or without a towel in any area of South Hampton results in mandatory day in town jail. Parking in any school lot or playing on any school field in Ridgewood NJ if you do not work or attend that school will get you dragged off by police. I am not saying Ringwood is anything like this yet, but certainly a good idea not to push the issue. Please be discrete and remember that you are parking in a school lot as a guest.

I live across the street from a township open space area. My landlord and the neighbors have little to no tolerance for the shenanigans that go on in the parking area. The loud music, dogs off leash, garbage dumping, smokin weed or dealin, parking on the grass when the lot is overfilled and many, many more. Cops are on speed dial.
So, we as a group need to draw the least amount if attention as possible when parking at the school or any trail head because our privileges may be cut off.

Not just any landowners, but ones that have been so gracious with their property, that there is a trail bearing their name. We are trying our best to make amends, but trail closures could be imminent. Yup, it’s happening again.*

Over the years I've lost more access to fishing locations on private property due to bad actors than I can count. The few that are left are kept quiet and new users can't understand why folks won't share. I had a memorable occurance happen in the spring one year on property historically allowed access (lake Erie tributary). Owner came out and asked us to leave, we did...immediately and respectfully. We didn't see posted signs as we walked in a different direction and had been there prior. State Police came and met us in the adjacent state parking lot and told us in the prior fall a few bad actors were so brazen they took a crap on the owners lawn when the owner asked them to pick up the trash they left. Its the way of the world these days, the few ruin for the many. All you can do is try to be as good as you can, inform where you can, and enjoy what you can while you can.
