MCP Trail Maintenance

First scheduled TM of 2013

The first scheduled TM of 2013 is Saturday March 16th. We will be meeting in the marina parking lot by the volleyball courts at 9 am.

Not sure what we are going to work on yet but I will update if I hear any specifics from Mick, otherwise we'll wing it! 😉

Wear comfortable work clothes, Tools and gloves will be supplied by JORBA.

Come on out and score some early season karma points 🙂

See ya there!

Group,

We had a great turnout 50 hours in the Pay Dirt book already!

We were able to break up into two groups and work on both the red and the blue trails today!

We took care of several areas where trees had been weakened by Sandy and became hazards after recent wind storms

We had a light snow towards the end of the day. Being in the woods with a light snow falling gives you a very calming feeling

It was a great way to start the trail year

Thanks to:
Tasha Kersey
George Nickels
Rick Archer
Chris Brzezynski
Allison Wong
Genevieve DiGiulio
Chuck Prettyman
Tom Swords
Joe Goreberg
Jeff Conklin
Alistair MacLennan
Alistair MacLennan III
Michael Sullivan
Mick Tormey

TM, April 13 2013

The April 2013 TM Session at Mercer County Park is this Saturday, April 13th. We will be meeting in the marina parking lot by the volleyball courts at 9 am.

We are planning to work on the blue trail. We need to rebuild "the missing bridge" yet again because some *&^%%$#@ removed the decking again. 🙁

If we have enough volunteers, we will also be working on some muddy areas of the blue trail, spreading wood chips and digging some rolling grade dips to help control the water flow away from the tread.

Wear comfortable work clothes, Bring a drink and a sense of humor.😀

Tools and gloves will be supplied by JORBA.

Come on out, give back to our trails and score some karma points. You can never have too many!

See ya there!

May TM Thanks

Thanks to Mick,Tom, Rich, Chuck, Al, Rick and Mike for a great (but tiring) TM session today. We continued work on the upper blue trail, stone where drainage was needed and raising the tread with wood chips. It looks great and should pack in nice. I don't have many pictures beacuse we were too busy loading and hauling wheel barrels but here is one. Anyone who knows this trail knows what it looked like previously. 😉
Please ride it and pack it in for us 🙂

We never seem to get before photos??
It would have been nice to get before during and after photos for this stretch of trail we hid a lot of stone work with those wood chips

I'm just learning MCP. Is "upper blue" the portion off South Post Road that runs near Conover? I tried to enter off South Post a few weeks ago and it was complete muck. Wasn't sure that portion of blue was still rideable.

Yes indeed, It's still rideable but It can be a bit mucky this time of year. Especially this year!
I think you will find it much more enjoyable after the work we just did this past weekend.
Check it out!

Excellent. I definitely will, and hope to join you all for the next TM. Thanks.

Sweet! The more, the merrier! It's a great way to learn the park and a ton of fun. You will find it very rewarding to ride the trails that you work on too.
Let me know if you want to ride some time, I know Mercer very well.
I usually post the TM dates here for people who don't frequent the JORBA calendar. I also ride before the TM usually, weather permitting.
and finally...If you are interested in group rides, check out our meetup group:

Hey Oleg, It was nice to finally meet you on Friday.
How was Mountain Creek?

It was a lot of fun.
I brought all of my tools, back up tires and tubes but I forgot a chain. On my first run I broke the chain.

After buying a very $$$$ chain I was back out in 5 min.

It was cool to see all of the teams with their trucks and trailers and photographers and so on. There was a lot of good riders out on that day.

I only dumped once and walked away from the crash only with a couple of bruises.
