Mercer County Park Conditions

Got in a great ride just before the rain hit. Finally found my way onto the blue trail from South Post Road. Was having SO MUCH fun until I came out by the power lines and couldn't figure out where to go. A deer stared at me for about five minutes while I tried to match up my GPS and trail map, but alas I had to hit the road and head back to the East Picnic parking lot. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise since it started raining as soon as I got back.

So can anyone tell me where I should have picked up the trail again? It looks like from the map I should have made a left as soon as I came out but I'm curious how far down the trail drops back in. Thanks!

And, again, thanks to everyone who maintains the trails. They were in great shape. If I'd only have carried some handy trimmers like Tom suggested, I could have cut back a few thorns. Next time. 🙂

I had the same experience my 1st times at Mercer. I checked everything that seems like trails, but each dead end. You do have to take the roads back to the east picnic area.

Yep, as Matt said... It's no longer passable back there. We're trying to come up with something to keep us off of the road but there aren't many options.

Is the tree still down on the blue trail before the boat house? I may try to get out there this week. How big is it approximately?
If anyone get's out, snap me a pic or 2 🙂

Mike.. tree is.down.on lower blue near the west splitoff with SOB (crew house end). Not an easy one to climb.

Big thanks to Tom S for his impromptu trimming on red.

Mike, I went by it...well crawled under it 😡 yesterday. TMS has the location pegged. It's an oak. Double trunk. Main trunk is around 18-20 where it crosses the trail. The other one is like 6-8 inches at most. Root ball is well off the trail and both trunks are well off the ground. Should be a simple drop the top off trail first, then nibble back ( smaller chunks) towards the rootball.
If you do go this week I'd be glad to help, ping me we can meet up. NOTE Mosquitos ARE BAD slather on the DEET!:getsome:

What a fine job you guys did with this
Mike who said you were unteachable???

Well.... in that light, he only got the saw stuck once:cry:
Minimal coaching from the sawmeister (Chuck) was required😀

AND he did demonstrate the plunge cut for us. That was NEAT!

Anyone going out today that can give me a conditions update? (besides enormous swarms of blood sucking parasites!)
I was hoping to ride early on Sunday.
Thanks,

-Mike

Sat

If things go my way I will try to get out there sat am before I hit up Scudders. Were just a ways from the park and the grounds around the condo here are still pretty wet and some standing water here and there. Will post up if I don't forget to.
