you wouldn't even need that. just some gizmo that changed resistances on the fly wheel. and that may not even be 100% necessary.

not that this is a fantastic parallel b/c the cost is still in excess of $2K, but at the east bank club in CHI they have these high zoot bikes that you can "race" other people on. the handlebars turn several degrees to help you "stay on the road". it was pretty cool but even on the elite level i was smoking the computer. and lord knows i'm not elite anything.

it sure is possible though. i mean, the cycleops powerbeam pro is pretty much there.
 
My YMCA has these bikes which enable you to race other people in the gym. There's a lever that enables you to change gears. If you're not racing against other peeps in the gym, there's a pace guy to race and you determine how fast he goes. For only 5K, you can have your own.

On my ride home yesterday, I started getting some skipping from my chain in was wondering what the hell was going on, I was like a mile from my house, so I didn’t thinking about it much and just put the bike on the rack when I got home to check it later. After attending to family duties, I came out to clean up my chain, which has been taking one hell of a beating with this shitty weather, wetness and salt. As I am wiping it off with some of that awesome spray degreaser, I notice one link that the pin pulled out from one plate but was still holding together. Upon further inspection, the only plate was broken and missing the round part of the link. Lovely, but of no surprise as I am probably due for a new chain anyways. No big deal, throw a quick link in there and good to go but will be picking up a chian in the near future.

Ride this morning was much better in terms of road conditions and there was much less ice. I got out later then I wanted again as I was looking for at least an hour and half this morning. So I did a short loop from my house and then stopped home to get my bag. Bag was alittle on the full side since I was carrying some stuff that people bought. Speaking of which, I have some fine stuff for sale so check the for sale section to snatch up some deals. Anyways, ride was uneventful, just on the cold side.

This weekend may be alittle slim on riding. Tomorrow is my son’s birthday party and this weather is not helping my wife’s stress level. It also looks like a pre dawn ride is in store and the icy conditions could stop that too. I am betting on the roads being alittle warmer from today and this ice isn’t so bad. If I miss the ride, no big deal, but if the party gets cancelled, I will be in a world of suck for the day. Let’s hop for the best.

Hopefully Sunday will see a 2-3 hour ride and possibly include some dirt roads.
 
I bagged it for tomorrow. The weather looks to be coming in early so tonight is date night with jamie...we are going into New Hope to see Capers and his band at Triumph But good luck tomorrow

I gave my bike a once over yesterday and it was a nasty scene... My cassette body had small freckles of rust and some links in my chain were stiffer than they should be... I gave the wheel a nice shining and dropped some chain lube on every nipple... I always wipe the chain down but taking it off and soaking will be a weekly thing after what I saw yesterday...

yeah, the two cassettes I use one that bike (different wheelsets) are showing rust but that isnt that big of a deal with if it is just freckles, but the chain, ugh. I have pretty much been wiping down and oiling my chain after every ride this year. I like the dumond tech lite since it doesnt seem to get as dirty and gummy as the regular. As a result my chain has been the cleanest it has ever been, but you miss doing that after one ride and it takes twice as long to clean the next time and just gets destroyed if ou ride it with cleaning it, what a pain.

I think bread crumbs will work better, or maybe chunks of clif bars?
There are a group of dirt roads on the way to lambertville that are very paved road like. Couple in the sourlands area too. I will highlight some if I do a ride over the weekend.
 
What is the spray on degreaser you mention??? I was using the Dumonde but found that Pedro's makes a similar degreaser that works just as well (bigger bottle and cheaper)

It is the Finish Line Speed Degreaser. I attached a link below but you know where I gots mine. All I do is spray alittle bit in a rag and wipe the chain clean. Then let the chain site for a min or two and oil it up. Seriously, this stuff makes chain maintenance simple. You can use it to blow all the grease and grime out of a cassette too, but the can runs out pretty fast doing that. I think Ben clued me in about this stuff.

Finish Line degreasers are awesome.

I use this. Couple oz. in an old water bottle, shake wait and rinse with hot water. Chain looks like new.

That stuff is a bike mechanic's wet dream. Grime jumps off the drivetrain when you reach for the can. You can use it very quickly though. It is thin an evaporates fast. Kev's suggestion to put it on a rag is a good one.

FWIW, I suggest removing the cassette to clean it with this stuff. Trying to clean the cassette while still on the bike only makes it marginally cleaner and you end up with a mess.

I find this stuff to be very similar to automotive brake dust remover. I haven't tried brake dust remover on bike stuff. The reason I bring this up is because we may be able to find the auto stuff cheaper than the bike stuff.

Yeah, myself and the outside wall of my garage found that out the hard way. 😱 Not to mention your rim, spoke and rotor can get covered with grime.
 
i tried to get the cassette off the niner last night and it wouldn't budge. i took that as a sign to leave it alone for now and get back on the cx bike.

i use that citrus degreaser that wobble mentioned in the same manner. sadly right now it's FROZEN in my garage.

You were using a chain whip and the right key? And it still wouldn't budge?
I thought you were a weight lifter...???
