Nassau Trail conditions

Here’s the deal. The trails have been fine the last few days, but someone ripped the covers off of our Temporary Closed signs and I didn’t have time to go fix it. So I kept the listing as closed on the FB page to avoid mixed messages. There were folks riding anyway when I got there to fix the signs. Ideally people would adhere to the trail updates. The trails are borderline right now With puddles in flatlands, so I’m leaving it closed since we are expecting poor weather Wed/Thurs. The weekend looks great and I’ll post opening as soon as possible.

On another note, we are dealing with user conflict around Springside. Please keep well clear of properties and avoid being a nuisance to neighboring houses. I’m trying to avoid a larger conflict issue arising here, so please take this seriously. I’m not posting that to the FB page because non-MTB townies also follow that page. Please be on your best behavior around Springside. Following trail closure postings is a good start. Please leave this posting on MTBNJ.

So to clarify, when nassau is closed, it's posted on a Facebook page? I never use Facebook but even if I did, wouldn't think to look there. just an fyi

Fair enough. Word is generally here as well, though I don’t necessarily post it here myself every time, Jeremy, Robin and a host of others generally do. I can be more proactive here if you want.

Did something specific happen to trigger this, or are some of the locals not happy about High Bridge becoming an mtb destination?

i think it’s mostly attributable to higher traffic this year than past years, probably COVID stress, but there have been a few examples of lack of consideration for local residents as well.

People walking out through yards?
Wonder what we could do to help balance it - more than just being considerate?

At my fraternity, we would rake/shovel/trim for the neighbors.
I'm sure we lowered their home value significantly.......
Anyway, if you think of anything, maybe we could do something positive.
I'm sure you all have an outreach going.

Everything & everyone is on a hair trigger right now. We, as bikers, have a healthy and legal outlet to turn to. We all need to make sure we're using this healthy outlet, as well as being respectful for others who are not necessarily able to do the same.

Unfortunately some members of our biking community just have little/no respect for anyone else.

yeah I don't ride there on weekends but when I've been there, I rarely see anyone. Last week a mom with a few kids hiking. Tho last week I did see a guy riding but there were no cars in either lot, I was curious how he got there

Also realize this is less than 1/2 mile away from the infamous waterfall party spot that was shut down.
I can see why the locals are on edge about disrespectful visitors.
Hopefully we can do some good - as the guys there have so much time invested.

Did someone make a TikTok video featuring Nassau Trails? I heard that's how the falls got so popular.

Not sure about tiktok, but it was spread on a "places" forum/social media that identifies swimming/free/public.
Also happened in somerville and branchburg.
