Need help picking beer for my wedding

I hardly drink, as in I'm 210 pounds and have trouble getting up after a beer.5. Yet I have been given the responsibility to pick out what to drink, I already have Mr. Kirtland making the wine, o shit, so I at least want the beer to be something that gets people happy. Looking for recommendations!

Saison Dupont, Orval Trappist, La Chouffe, Westmalle Trappist Tripel, Duvel... basically, any good Belgian!

Who are your guests?

Despite the fact that there is a beer renaissance going on now, most folks stick to coors light. Serving an IPA that they are not used to may not make them happy.
I'd play it safe and stick to the popular domestics like bud, coors and throw in some Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada pale ale as an upgrade... These beers have alcohol in them, so they will be happy.

Even beer snobs are not expecting a great IPA at a wedding.

We served:
Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils
Troegs Hopback Amber
Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter

Know your guests a little here. Sad but true , but most folk will ask for Coors light or Budweiser or Miller light . At weddings my go to beer is usually Heineken, only because these are the 4 mostly available at any weddings I've attended. No need to get too crazy on beers. It's your day and family and friends are attending for you and not so much to be beer snobs. You could break the bank on all the crazy beers that are out nowadays. But I will second jmanic on Great Lakes Edmond Fitzgerald Porter, this is simply a great tasting beer your friends and family would most likely enjoy.

congrats on taking the big plunge -

when is the wedding? - the season may help decide the beer....

always safe with heiniken/amstel any time.

It's next month, may 30th, I'm gonna look into more well known beers that people are more familiar with. I don't think I'll get bud since I don't like the taste. There are about 80 people coming and I think all but 15 will be drinking. I'm gonna try out the SN ones because if I recognize the name I'm sure anyone will there lol. My fiance and I both want this to be as present and laid back as possible for all our guest this is just one of our decisions we don't know what to do? If I didn't care I'd say fuck it everyone is going to have either ginger-ale or water lol, its a shame I really do care about everyone coming.

hoegaarden white ale - absolutely wonderful beer for the traditional beginning of summer!
stella is also a wonderful beer, very easy to drink with lots of flavor.

people that don't drink beer will drink this one. (that can be good or bad) - it is readily available.
then amstel for those who want a light beer.

don't sweat the decision - your (plural) day. make the decision today, you can not be wrong (really, nobody complains about free beer.) put it behind you and don't think about it again!
also, don't dismiss any decision in front of the future wife - it could be the most important thing she has asked you to do atm....
"talked to some people, and they said it is a can't miss" - done, and you are a super hero.

cheers!

You can't drive yourself nuts with the beer selection. No matter what you choose, you're not going to please everyone. Assuming you are having a full open bar or some other options too, if people dont like the beer choices they can always grab a cocktail or some wine.

We had 3 beers at our wedding, I know one was Miller Lite, I think the other two were Sam Adams and Yeungling. The venue ran out of Miller Lite and claimed they had never seen a wedding consume so much of it, YMMV.

We don't drink either, so we ended up going with 3 opposite (to me) kinds of beer. Heineken, Yuengling, and Pearl's parents wanted Coronas. I really didn't think anyone would drink the Corona, but I'm pretty sure there were zero left by the end of the night. Go figure.

I wouldn't worry about getting any "fancy" beers because people drink anything when it's free. I'd just pick the most popular, I feel like everyone likes Heineken, that's safe.

In theory, as a guest, I would love all sorts of great beers to choose from. But I think the "keep it simple" crowd is right on. Think about Uncle Gus who only ever drinks 3.5% Coors Lite and then comes and knocks out 4-5 beers at 9% then gets behind the wheel to drive home. Times 50. Could be ugly.

So I say PBR. Doubly so if you're serving PBJ.

I'm gonna see if we can get a better tasting coors type of beer since your 100% on this, college has made me hate PBR lol.

If we went open bar we'd double our budget on that alone lol, our budget said and done is <8k so I'm not gonna go crazy since I don't have enough room in the budget for that lol. You guys are making me rethink hard liquor

Its your wedding, do what you and your soon to be spouse want to do. Everyone will throw advice at you, but as mentioned before, regardless of what you decide on beer or anything else, you won't please everyone. So focus on doing what makes you two happy.

With your tighter budget, keep it simple. Offer a light beer and a regular beer and call it a day. If you're not familiar with beer choices and what a good portion of your guests will drink, ask someone in your wedding party or a family member to figure it out and be done with it. In most crowds there are Miller vs Coors light folks, budwieser vs anything else, etc..
