Nittany 9/7-9/8

I'm going to be on site. I'll be annoyed to watch racing all day without getting in on the fun. What the hell. I'm in for Sunday to take advantage of those who are tired from racing on Saturday too. 😉

I'll make an appointment with my Chiropractor and massage therapist for Monday. 🙄

For those that have done this race before how is it? Is it a wide open horsepower course or is it tight and twisty type of course?

its usually a fast race due to the pretty open nature and the amount of roadies that show up since its so early on in the season. Last year it was really dry/fast and the year before it was a muddy bog.

Normally I like mud, but given the apparent leech field problems the upper section of the course, I'm hoping it stays dry...

Who's racing tomorrow? I suddenly find myself with a free day and I thought I would swing by to absorb some cross action. Lemme know your event, and I'll try to remember to randomly shout your name...

First weekend of 'cross is in the books!
Saw a bunch of you folks out there this weekend...rather, heckled a bunch of you from atop the mtbnj.com shanty town on a hill. So how did it go for you?

It only seems appropriate that I'm next. I actually trained a bit and was nervous as hell going into Nittany. As many times as Eric told me the race is as tactical as it is ability I somehow lost sight of that. I was very happy to sit in too much and it definitely cost me a "shot" at the win. As an experience... I may be in love. I don't think this course suited me from a technical perspective but it was pure fun. I have to thank all my teammates at MTBNJ and my training partners at Elite Endurance. Not that I did anything special - 2 nd in Cat4, but it gave me some perspective on where I need to be. Now I need to find out if I can do 40+ in NJBA if I am Cat 4. Big Shawn, EO and KL has helped reveal a whole new perspective on things with 2 wheels. I now understand Norms passion!

I now understand Norms passion!

And the rest of ours too!
You've shown me that not only can I not hold on to your wheel on an MTB, I also cannot hold on to your wheel on a CX bike either... lol...

What a great weekend though. Yeah, the course wasn't tech, but the overall environment was superb.

And I got a chance to meet audi666. Now, tell us about the fisticuffs in the B race.

Raced both days in the Women's 3/4. Great Saturday race - finished 3rd. Today...crashed coming into one of the last turns...and ran to the finish. Lost a few positions but still managed to finish 8th.

Great times hanging out with everyone. Thanks to all who cheered and heckled...looking forward to Charm City!

I did the 35+ race Sat only and it was sketch city. Every little turn on the first lap resulted in a fistful of brake - one of the benefits of starting 60th in a pack of 80. Halfway through lap 1 some guy locks up his brakes and hits the ground making me do the same. Then comes Montalbano doing a cartwheel and landing right on top of me. We untangle and get up and start our race all over from dead last. Bent hanger, shifting like crap, I somehow get it to find a gear and go. I fought through a bunch but the the misshifting gets me to contemplate going for my pit bike, but it had a front tire that was leaking down and I could just go in and find it flat. I figured I'd just use what I got and do the best I can. Chased back to 22nd in the end. Now if only I had a clean first lap and a start near the front...

Glad I didn't race today as I had to catch up on life a bit but I was thinking about the racers out there. Hope it was as much fun as yesterday.

It was a great opening weekend! Packed 2/3/4 races, I'm glad I missed all of the apparent conflicts, it's about pushing yourself and having a good time.

I enjoyed the chance to catch up with some folks; there are a bunch of people I still need to meet.
