Nittany 9/7-9/8

I know all about the fight on sunday because it happened right in front of me in the rear of the B race. It was routine incident that sometimes happens in the first few minutes: Two guys touched wheels, one went down, the other went wobbly. The guys get up and block the course. I start looking for a way around. Then instead of remounting there is lots of swearing and guy #1 starts swinging at the other, blocking the course and the last 20 of us. We then spend the rest of the race chasing. The instigator guy had a blue and yellow kit (cutters?) and talked alot of crap. I didnt get a good look at the other guy (orange kit.)

Otherwise, this was my first time at nitanny and i enjoyed the course. Nice wide turns and low tech stuff. I liked the log crossing and the chuckleheads in the woods there. I took my first beer hand up! My legs felt great and i am optimistic about this season. What I didnt like: Guys who cant bunny hop trying to jump the log because the crowd said so. Also, Massive race fields and fighting meatheads.

Fun weekend for me in the 4/5 races, but I have a long ways to go if I want to be competitive.

I started in the 3rd row on Saturday. Halfway down the start straight a guy leaned into my shoulder before taking a tumble right behind me. I was red-lined for the first lap and stayed around 20th, then rolled my tire right in front of the MTBNJ tent. It was a really long half lap to the pit, and I never really got back up to speed afterwards. I finished 98th I think.

Sunday was a 2nd row start, but I went backwards from there. I came into the log on the 1st lap around 30th and finished in 82nd.

Thanks for the recap on the fight. I was wondering what that was all about.

IMO, large fields make it more fun.
This is only my second year racing CX, but the fighting meatheads thing is a total anomaly. Especially since there was a fight on each day.

I think ill like the big fields more if i get better at bikereg.com sprints to register and get better race numbers. I must practice these.

And I got a chance to meet audi666. Now, tell us about the fisticuffs in the B race.

Yah it was a pleasure! Sorry i didnt make it up to the tent, im always so disoriented after races 😀

On day 2 of the B 2/3/4 my buddy Bill whos a quick cat2 roadie was giving cross his first go 🙂 Off the start he was moving up and going into the right hander into the old mud pit omn the inside. The other guy leaned into him and they both crashed out. From what my other friend who was right there told me "After that, I saw the dude stand up, yell at bill and push him, take a couple swings, and finally bill got around him and got his bike untangled and took off. The whole group around him was bunched up so tons of people were around there and yelling at the dude to calm down, but even when I rode by the guy was threatening bill as we rode past him.

I was talking to bill after the race about it and an official came over and asked him about it, and he asked both of us to write statements about it. The official said the dude started shit with a bunch of other people during the race, too, so I assume he's going to be suspended or something."

I did see later that the guy trying to fight people (#411) got DQ'd

Haha this is what I like about heckling up there for that race though!!!
The meathead-ness will die out soon as it gets cold and all the roadies stay inside on their trainers 😀

I'm sad to learn that you were here this weekend and didn't come by to say hello to the orange & blue. Next time I see you I will shun you, or start a fist fight in the middle of the course. Maybe we could pre-ride together and come to fisticuffs?

As for Audi666, the fact that I drive an Audi and he STILL has not come over to introduce himself probably means he could pre-ride with us and we could make is a 3-way boxing match.

I think anyone who starts a fight in the Bs should immediately be downgraded to the Cs. Or should have to race the Little Belgians race.

I keep looking for a LIKE button.

I think I'm hooked on cross. At least fair weather cross. Such a great atmosphere and the pain is short-lived thankfully.

I had a great time, never crashed, avoided the carnage in front of me on Saturday, pushed myself, and finished mid pack both days in large fields. I even managed to make a couple legitimate passes on the last lap on Sunday. I finished 67/111 Saturday and 61/92 Sunday.

I was relatively smooth on the barriers/log over and didn't lose much ground in the corners. But obviously my fitness blows.

Looking forward to Town Hall.

haha sorry... ill be by at Charm City! I dont have any audi anymore either, just an old BMW 😀

He might hurt a Little Belgian though... guess wrestling coaches cant hold their temper :/

The guy throwing f bombs was in dark blue maybe? He was pissed! I did not see the actual crash, but the guy next to me did and said it just looked like a poor inside pass by someone, who just took everyone out.

Anyone know what color the kit was?

I had a similar run in, less the punches with someone.

The results list a DQ for #411 Justin Kast. He lists as a sponsor Spokes Bike Shop in Pottsville, PA. Their team jersey shown on the shop website looks like this:

Not sure if my last post was even related to the same guy. There were several crashes and f bombs flying out there. ... Not that I support this type of behavior, but IMO pretty normal for first race of the season. 😱

There is a lot of excitement going into the first race, and that is why I love this race so much. Really sorry to be sidelined, as the excitement is not quite the same when viewed from the other side. But as part of my non race report: I was really happy to see some ladies sporting smiles in orange and blue this weekend! 🙂 Although I was bummed to NOT race, I still got to ride 3 laps on my mountain bike and cheer for some others. This morning the PT patient next to me, 3 months out of surgery was admiring my progress and thinner ankle, which puts the whole thing in perspective.

I may take a few more days of eating ice cream, drinking wine and feeling sorry for myself, but I am hoping to be out racing soon. 🙄

I just saw that after looking at the results. I think my run-in was with the same guy. I do remember he had brown shorts on Saturday.

Egads, Norm! I am sorry for the no-show. I have nothing but love for team mountainbikenewjersey! I did see you from afar while transporting my wheels to the pit and then no more. I arrived at trexlertown just in time to race and had to leave promptly afterwards to find some pizza. My family came to watch and it seems i "forgot to pack the turkey" for sandwiches.

GV! I had no idea you were there until we were in the car on the way home. And I did one better than you...I forgot to pack all of the food for the entire weekend. Doh.

My race recap is over the fence on the blogamathingie.

Keep the recaps coming, y'all.
