NYC PABT Commuters

For me Greenway is not faster. Going East/West + the curve around 23rd St really adds more time than you think. If you only ride the bike lanes + stop on all the lights, it might be about the same.

If I want to get downtown as fast as possible, I try to ride with the cars. I find myself passing them more than they pass me. I do feel more relaxed riding the Greenway though.
Definitely don't stop at all lights. Burn them when it's safe to do so but when you get around 14th st when going up, there are decent pedestrian traffic and if I see cops, I will stop. Not worth risking a what, $150 ticket?

I guess it was a silly question to ask to begin with since its such a short distance. Only if it was longer, it might make sense.

But definitely get when you say the greenway would be more relaxing. Already there were few instances when I greeted some drivers by extending the universal hello of flicking the bird.

One thing of concern that I have is the condition of POSS. I'm jumping up and down curves to get around traffic. I'm gonna either flat or the POSS will discinergrate and fall apart to a million pieces. Times like these, I wish I had the mtb.

What do you do for a pump/flat repair? I only commute by bike within Hoboken so my backup is to walk home (like I did last night) but your situation is a little different.

Well.. right now I'm just winging it.
The wheels are bolt on and the axle are a different size front and back and didn't want to carry heavy tools around. If I get a flat... I'm pretty much screwed. I guess I can lock it up at that spot and come back at a later time to attend to it.

Btw... Day 3 is rained out but the POSS is still there. Sad part is... I'm looking out the window at the office and looks like the rain stopped....😡

Should prolly carry around an adjustable wrench and a pump at least...

Funny thing is, I do have a spare tube in the bag.. lol

My fastest route downtown from GWB is straight down the middle of the island. This allows u to go in a diagonal. Saves me 5 min over greenway going to Union Sq area.

Day 4 and still there.

Took the greenway in and it took longer with 1 more mile but the constant pedaling made it a better workout. I think I'll take the greenway in every morning, provided the bus isn't late, and take 8th going up.

Where was it?!?
I did not see it and had a sad.

Thoughts on this? When it starts getting cold?

What are you doing to protect your clothing now? No fenders is going to be dicey once the roads get grimier in the winter.

Following along. I did the NYC bike commute thing for awhile. Also tried a kick scooter for awhile. I'm cross town from PABT, and I'm just walking these days. I've seen your bike out there a few mornings. I'll have to see whats in my old sticker stash.

Other than rolling up my pant leg... nothing

Cool on the stickers!
But doesn't have to be stickers. It would pretty cool to collect mtbnj member signatures on the bike as well!

Btw... in the winter, I plan on going back to the subways and fatten up for insulation.

It's cool to commute by bike but I am not willing to suffer the wrath of mother nature.

Day 5 Da Squirrel Waz Here

Just need to take a sharpie and sign the TT. When I saw the red tape... I thought it was some eviction notice lol

Raceface handlebar too... lol
I doubt I would need a mtb rim brake lever... so it was dispensible. Better this than to spend money to buy a cheaper set. I actually dont know what model they are. The markings are pretty faded.
Same thing with the bar... too short to be used anywhere else.

Besides, they are a million years old lol
