No one cares about Potato guns? Man you guys suck. I was going to post videos but I guess I'll just skip it.
Since we were heading to Jungle, and I wasn't racing (80% my mental state, 20% not feeling 100%) I decided to toast my legs as much as I could Friday/Saturday. Also was looking to have some sore arms. Mandi was out doing wedding dress things so I suited up to take my mountain bike up Vosseller and ride some CR for some
Friday sunshine.
The ride to Vosseller is slightly uphill the whole time in Bound Brook, and makes climbing it hurt a little bit more. I somehow went 50 seconds faster my last time up this road climb, so I must have been feeling really good (or really bad) this time around.
I also somehow only ran into 2 groups of riders, 3 people total. Was Chimney Rock closed or did everyone just get their fix?
Flying down Vosseller at 38MPH is also a rush. My eyes teared up and I'm glad the light at the bottom was green.

I had a great ride and kept it all together. Climbed really well and was able to big ring everything, which is a positive to me. If I can save that little ring for when I'm really in trouble, I think I will be good. I get home right before the sun sets.
I'm not a early riser compared to many people on this site, I don't usually have any need to wake up and hit the road/trails before lunch is served. Every once and a while I will get the itch. I decided to meet Chris at Wawayanda at 7AM on
Saturday to ride the Bearscat course. I was 50/50 on even doing this race, but I figured worst case it would be a fun ride. Also would be fun to see how my legs felt after yesterdays ride, as CR always puts a hurt on ya.
We meet on Cherry Ridge Road, which I've never been on. I have no idea where to park so I drive as far as I can until the road becomes a trail. No way the Fit would have made it any farther
😛
We have a pretty awesome ride. Amazing how big this place is. We only saw three people early in the ride, and then ever saw anyone again.
The course was in a great shape, minus 3-4 trees that fell recently. The course has has a good amount of fire road and road that let you regain your composure and/or take a breather from the tech stuff. Chris was riding super strong and is a great tech climber and can flat out crush the rocks downhill. I always felt like I opened it up on the DH's a lot, but he would just leave me. I almost fell backwards on the first of three bumps on Rattlesnake. I was happy with the sections of trail I cleared, but still got hung up on stupid stuff. I think I sometimes shift too early and bail out into an easier gear. It saves my legs and my lungs from busting out of my chest, but I start crawling and smack a rock, lose momentum. Need to work on that. Chris takes a pretty sweet fall but pulls some breakdancing move to save his ass from hitting the deck. The bugs are also horrendous.

I was happy to be off the trail and man, my upper body is smoked. Mission completed. The sad thing is, I'm not sure how much faster I could have ridden that course. Maybe a couple of fire roads you could put the hammer down a little more, but man, that is a sweet and challenging course. Doing that twice is crazy.
As I type this, I haven't signed up for Bearscat. I'm thinking it would be a great ride before the Stoopid 50. I'm also afraid I may completely kill myself and not make it to PA on the 16th. Then I realized I would have a full two weeks to get my crap together before the trip out to PA. I think I'm going to do it.
I get home around 12:30 and I'm beat. I figured I would be. We both take a nice nap. Not many things are better than a good nap. Maybe a Choco Taco. Speaking of Choco Tacos, I realized I left my wallet at the Utopia Deli, where I stopped for lunch. Super. Good thing they are honest people (lez be honest, I didn't have any cash in my wallet) and I would be up in that are tomorrow. I also didn't realize Jungle was that close to Wayway. You take such a weird way to get to Wayway, I figured it was at least 30 minutes northwest of Jungle. Roads are crazy like that.
Sunday Morning comes and it looks damp outside, but nothing on the radar. Everything is packed for the race and we hit the road. Felt like I slept in from Saturday morning, which was nice for driving. I felt awake.
Sadly the rain just kept coming and coming. Gross.
Mandis warmup
Hung out with Luke, Dustin and Kirt in the woods. Pretty miserable out on the trails. No real carnage to note of. Mandi made it back alive and made a mess of my car. Real fun to watch her battle back and forth with Kristine.
I got my wallet back. We then partied at Lukes. He made a fire and Maria treated us to Berglers. I took a nap on their couch. I don't think I drooled at all.
This wasn't in my wallet.
Fun, long weekend that seemed to last a while. Usually they fly right by. I was able to enjoy this one. I also feel I'm back to where I needed to be after that spill earlier, which makes me happy
🙂
