9 weeks post-surgery #1.
1 week post-surgery #2.
So I'm still here. Two packs of Medrol down. One week of Flexiril ingested. I'm slowly, very slowly, improving. This is just not what I expected. The hard surgery was easy and the easy surgery was hard.
I'm mostly resting. Some sitting, stretching, and some walking. I can drive rather fine, just not my manual tranny car at this point. The mornings and evenings bring tears to my eyes if I squat down, bend over, or sit too long. Getting in and out of bed is not fun. During the day I'm surprisingly mobile. Very strange dichotomy. My foot pain is definitely better than before surgery #2.
I'm thankful to be able to watch each and every Tour stage.
My weight is still stable, but I'm looking a little more out-of-shape. I'm guessing that I've started to lose muscle mass from being a slug. Still better than ballooning up and having to request new uniforms...
I spoke a bit with my surgeon earlier this week and he reiterated that I need to be patient. I'm trying. The constant pain is, honestly, starting to wear on me mentally. I was fine after #1. I was fine knowing I needed #2. But this is exhausting. I told him such. He admitted to spending some extra time looking around to make sure everything that needed to come out came out this time. Looking around translates to manipulating the nerve roots to peek behind them. Nerve roots, apparently, so not like that very much. I was supposed to be open 15-30 minutes. He had me open for an hour rooting around. Hopefully that's a good thing in the years to come.
After hearing the difficulty I am having (and noting the pain tolerance I had for the initial surgery), he's scheduled me for an epidural on Tuesday to decrease the inflammation in a more timely fashion. Big sigh of relief from me as my epidurals over the winter were a godsend.
Here's to hoping August is (mostly) pain free.
