im looking to get out with the girl and seeing as the trails are in pisspoor shape this weekend can anyone recomend a good scenic tow/rail trail in nj. im open to anywhere. so any ideas are great. 😀

MIG...My buddy and I do a bike and camp out using the D&R Canal annually...We leave from New Brunswick to Trenton, then from Trenton to Bull's Island...After setting up camp we head up to Frenchtown and get pissy drunk for a drunken night ride back to Bull's Island...The main path from N.B. to Trenton has some nice sections but the feeder path(along the Delaware) is my favorite...Give it a try someday...Here is a cool link

D&R is nice. My girlfriend and I rode there a lot before I found 6 mile. Its nice and flat so you can put in some serious miles w/o burning yourself out.

MIG, the D&R Canal from Lawrenceville North is real nice, especially when its along Carnegie Lake in Princeton.

The section along the Delaware from Washingtons Crossing up to Lambertville is great too.

I find the tow-paths a great way to mix things up and keep everything Fresh. You will often find me with the kids on the D7R Canal going from Lawrence to Princeton.

I did this a couple months ago:

Keep in mind the D&R Canal is not paved. I was riding along it today and saw wet snowy footprints. It may be a sloppy ride tomorrow.

The path from Allaire to Manesquan is paved.

Try the D&R Canal often during the summer the wife and I head south from the Alexander road lot in Princeton. We get down to Whitehead road and stop at Rita's for a water ice before heading north again. Very relaxing I recommend it if you have young ones

the problem with this path is everybody will be on it this weekend.

I actually live within 5 Minutes of the Alexander Rd lot and I can tell you that today there were people parked up the road trying to get on the canal path. It look pretty packed from what I could see when I drove through on the way home. Still going to try it out tomorrow hopefully!

Just an update about the tow path. I just got in from getting a paper. I ran by the Alexander lot and it already is looking busy there were about 20 cars in the lot. I didn't see any standing water on the path itself but it did look at little "soft" from the road. Still probably going to take the wife and daughter down there today and track north from the Alexander lot.

well we ended up just hitting the road for a nice loop from oceanport through rumson, through seabright, through monmouth beach back up into oceanport. nice little 12 mile loop with the little lady. perfect weather for riding today too.

I ride around Duke Island Park all the time. The trails are flat, boring (save a couple cool root-laden sections), and a little short, but they are ALWAYS dry (plus I can ride there from my house 😀). If the trails actually are muddy, they have paved trails parallel to the dirt trails.
